Make this trade? Tony Gonzo/SD for J Witten/Tenn? (UPDATED)

Postby deputy » Tue Sep 15, 2009 1:45 pm

Appreciate any insight/help/recommendations you can offer me here.

My Team and League Configuration is at the end of this message. I'm in last place and scored the fewest points in my league in Week 1. So yes, I'm getting ancy

Someone has offered me this trade:

Tony Gonzalez & San Diego Defense (I Get)

FOR

Derrick Mason & Tennessee Defense (I Give)

This is a PPR League (1 pt for all receptions)

These are my league reqs though:
(1) QB
(2) WR
(2) RB
(1) WR/TE
(1) WR/RB
(1) K
(1) DEF

TWO ISSUES:
1) So, if I pull off this trade I'd have BOTH Witten and Gonzalez on my roster and I can only start 1 of them if I so desire. Should I try leveraging Witten to another team in the hopes of getting a better QB? (oddly enough I might be able to pull off Witten for Romo straight up) Or should I try to get a better RB2.

2) Is SD a good defense to have at this point? I've suffered with poor fantasy defenses in the last 2 years so I'm a little scared of giving up Tennessee who looked really good last week. TEN also have a great fantasy playoff schedule (Weeks 14-15 at least). Def score generously in my league. TEN had 20 pts in Week 1 and SD had 14 pts.

Thanks!

-------------
25 Yd Pass = 1Pt; 20 Yd Rec/Rush = 1Pt; 1 PPR for all positions; All TDs = 6Pts
QB: M Ryan, J Cutler
WR/TE: Andr Johnson, Calv Johnson, J Witten, D Mason, L Coles
RB: M Forte, R Bush, D McFadden, Felix Jones, W McGahee, J Norwood
K: J Carney
DEF: TEN

I wouldnt do it. Mason is an old reliable vet and you don't need another TE. I'm not at all confident in SD defense, but I think TN is top 5. I think you would lose on both ends of this deal. Please help http://www.fantasyfootballcafe.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=446471&p=3077064#p3077064

i wouldnt do it unless you want gonzo over witten, then you would have to trade away witten to someone else.

you are getting more value, but you cant use that value, you would either have to re-trade away gonzo or witten and the league could conspire and not accept a trade for either so you are stuck with 2 top 3 TE's and can only use 1.

What if I were able to improve my QBs or an RB2? Currently discussing a Witten for Addai or Witten for Romo deal? If I were able to pull that off, would I then be making out better with this deal?

Does this league not start TEs, and just WR/TE?

That is what it appears to me...

If so, then Witten and Gonzo don't have much value. Gonzo is maybe a WR3 in this scenario.

And since its a PPR, then Mason is actually more valuable than Gonzo, IMO.

So no, I wouldn't do it.

It starts (2) WR, (2) RB, (1) WR/TE and (1) WR/RB

But check out my other options at WR....

Just trying to see if I could leverage Witten for an upgrade somewhere else.

You just had a bad week.. your team looks good. I mean AJ and Forte probably scored you a combined 12 points, thats not going to be the norm. Unless you can get a top 4 QB Ryan will be fine and I don't know what your league looks like, but you could use a better RB2, just not sure how you would get him.

Alright, here's an update:

Tony Gonzalez & San Diego Defense (I GET)

FOR

Jason Witten & Tennessee Defense (I GIVE)

This eliminates the (2) TE problem so now the question is:

Is the Ryan-Gonzo connection enough of an upgrade to give up Tennessee for SD def?

Last week TEN scored 20 points in my league; SD scored 14.

Advice?

Thanks!
