Week 2 WR Conumdrum

Postby RedBirdChica » Wed Sep 16, 2009 9:50 pm

I lost in week 1 with 104 points ... had some favorable WR matchups that didn't quite pan out - figured I'd look for some advise to avoid a flatline performance!

QB: Kurt Warner@Jac
BE: Trent Edwards@TB

WR1: Andre Johnson@Ten
WR2: Roddy White@Car
WR/RB Flex: Roy E. Williams@NYG
BE: Bernard Berrian@Det, Eddie Royal@Cle

RB1: DeAngello Williams@Atl
RB2: Derrick Ward@Buf (I KNOW ... darn July draft date suckered me into relying on him)
BE: Felix Jones@NYG, Daren Sproles@Bal

TE: John Carlson@SF

K: Jason Elam@Car

DEF: Vikings@Det
BE: Green Bay@Cin
_________________________________________________________________________________

My only major question lies in whether I should try to fit Berrian into the equation. I know that DB had a field day over the Detroit D with his 6 TD performance ... and Berrian could have one of his deep threat, big score days. Roddy and Andre both underperformed last week (leaving me very angry!) and Roy Williams is going up against the Giants' secondary.

As an aside! I've been considering dropping Royal for Todd Heap ... who is amazingly still available on waivers. I have confidence in Carlson - but should I pick him up just to keep him off of anyone else's roster? :) and use him as trade bait, mayhaps? Or should I wait for Royal to finally take off (projected 3 points for week 2).

I would keep Berrian on the bench. White and Johnson should have bounce back weeks. I would not drop Royal for Heap.

I guess you have to go with Roy Williams in flex over Sproles, but I'd be mighty tempted to start him if LT doesn't play, even against a tough Baltimore defensive front. He just seems like the kind of back that would potentially give them problems, a speedy one cut back that can score from anywhere on the field.

Keep an eye on the injury report on Sunday and if Tomlinson doesn't go, I'd go with Sproles at flex over Roy. Otherwise stick with Roy over Berrian.

Help me?

First, don't drop Royal for Heap. Heap isn't effective enough to worry about damaging you perhaps once or twice the whole season. I think the advice you've gotten is good: Play Sproles over Roy Williams based on LT's status. I think we'll see a lot more of Sproles as the weeks roll on, but against Baltimore in week 2, he may be best found on your bench.

Long term, I'd try to package Royal or Berrian following a strong game of theirs with Ward for a better RB2 option. Your very, very deep at WR and on the extreme opposite end at RB.

Good luck and thanks for the help with mine!
