Complex trade scenario WHIR 100%

Postby Sex Panther » Tue Sep 29, 2009 2:06 pm

This is a 12 team redraft money league.

Standard scoring w/ yardage bonuses.

QB/WR/WR/RB/RB/TE/K/D

My team

QB Schaub/Hasselbeck
WR Jennings/Ochocinco/S. Smith (NYG)/N. Burleson/A. Gonzalez
RB LT/R. Brown/Addai/D. Brown/M. Bell/M. Morris (WW trash in case K. Smith is seriously hurt)
TE Daniels
K Gostkowski
D Minnesota

I'm 2-1, and have been very active with trades thus far this year - I've essentially moved Brady/R. Bush/Roy Williams/M. Bush for Hasselbeck/Jennings/Addai/D. Brown.

2 offers have come to me the last couple of days - 1 from a RB starved owner who's 1-2 and 1 from a WR starved owner who's 1-2.

The first 1 was from the WR starved owner who offered me Sproles for my S. Smith (NYG).

The second 1 was from the RB starved owner who offered me S. Smith (CAR) or R. White for my Addai.

I don't think Sproles is enough for S. Smith (NYG).

I love S. SMith (CAR) & R. White - I think they're both perfect buy low guys, however, I lack RB depth & really don't need a WR.

So here's what I'm thinking, my roster is listed above.

The Smith/White owner's roster:

QB Cutler/Favre
WR Smith/White/Bowe/Washington/Garcon
RB Turner/Lewis/Lendale/McCoy/James
TE Olsen/Watson
K Gould
D Denver

The Sproles owner's roster:

QB Palmer/Garrard
WR Housh/Royal/Breaston
RB Jacobs/Portis/Parker/Benson/Buckhalter/R. WIlliams/S. Greene
TE Cooley
K Carney
D Atlanta

Now, I counted the Sprole's owner my S. Smith (NYG) for his C. Benson.

I could then accept the Addai for S. Smith (CAR) and just swap S. Smith's.

But, since I don't need a WR I was thinking of trying to take the Smith owner to the cleaners if the Benson deal goes through...

My Addai/D. Brown/N. Burelson for his S. Smith (or R. White) & M. Turner... insane I know, but he would get 2 starting RB (Addai and Brown are both better than anything else on his roster) and he's so paniced about Smith right now - he may actually view Burelson as an upgrade - crazy I know.

So, ideally, if I can pull this off, I'd look like this...

QB Schaub/Hasselbeck
WR S. Smith (CAR)/Jennings/Ochcinco/Gonzalez
RB LT/Turner/R. Brown/Benson/Bell
TE Daniels
K Gostkowski
D Minnesota

Insanely good for a 12 teamer (or a 10 teamer and possibly an 8 teamer) IMO.

Sproles owner would look like...

QB Palmer/Garrard
WR S. Smith/Housh/Royal/Breaston
RB Jacobs/Portis/Parker/Buckhalter/R. WIlliams/S. Greene
TE Cooley
K Carney
D Atlanta

A definate improvement at WR, takes a slight hit at RB - but still has a good stable IMO

Smith/White owner would look like...

QB Cutler/Favre
WR White/Bowe/Burelson/Washington/Garcon
RB Addai/D. Brown/Lewis/Lendale/McCoy/James
TE Olsen/Watson
K Gould
D Denver

Still a bad team, but I don't think that's changing regardless of anything he does. Loss of Smith and Turner hurt, but still deep at WR, and at least he has 2 feasible starting RB in Addai & Brown

This is all contingent on the Benson deal IMO.

And I'm really hoping these 2 are simply ignoring each others rosters - other wise I don't think I'm going to be dealing anybody.

What does the board think?

Thanks & WHIR as always

You're right. That is definitely complex! However, I'm going to ignore the other owners rosters that you listed...it doesn't matter. You need to make the trade that is best FOR YOU.

Now on to your original offers.

#1 I think Sproles is an upgrade over Addai. Sproles had a bad game last week, but the Chargers will rebound, and even if LT gets healthy, Sproles has proven that he's still got fantasy potential even when splitting carries.

#2 Carolina Smith is an upgrade over NY Smith.

Get Sproles and Smith.

Forget about Benson. He's a bum. Failed with the Bears and have you seen the Cleveland offense?

I'm also wary of White and Turner simply because the Falcons have NEVER had back to back winning seasons in franchise history. Falcons stock is going down, while Smith and the Panthers will rebound and rise(just an amateur's prediction).

well. i think c bens, crazy as it may seem, has a chance to be consistent all year. however i dont think that the trade for smith/turner will work.. just doesnt look like you are giving enough, especially for the name value that SS brings along. i think it would be easier to pull of that trade for white. if you are lucky though he will just be desperate enough for depth rather than value. i think the turner owner takes a pretty good hit at both positions

Thanks for the reply, but the other roster's are vital in this deal.

Benson plays for the Bengals and is currently the 8th highest scoring RB in the NFL in terms of fantasy (293 yards rushing/37 yard rec./2 TD).

Sproles is a back up at best - he cannot handle a full load.

I guess to make this simple - would you trade S. Smith (NYG)/J. Addai/D. Brown/N. Burelson for S. Smith (CAR)/M. Turner/C. Benson...

In a second.

I think Benson will outperform both Sproles and Addai easily barring any injury, and he's not sharing carries with anyone else. Not to mention that both Addai and Brown won't come close to Turner(not likely anyway).

I'm actually a little worried about Steve Smith (Car) but not enough to not go through with the deal.

YES. (simple is good!) ;-D Since you're giving up Burelson have him throw in Housh to make it an even 4-for-4.

Thanks for the help on mine.

Yeah I think you take the simplified deal. Benson seems to have found a home and has turned things around and he isn't splitting carries. While I do like SS (NYG) I don't think he's going to ever be the real SS (CAR). I think either Delhomme will get his head on straight, which really comes down to the panthers getting their running game going so he doesn't have to win it. Either that or they'll get Feeley in there and who knows what you get then. But either way, SS (CAR) is a stud with a ton of potential every week and Turner should be solid.
