Moved Rice/McFadden for Jacobs: Great Move, Right?

Postby mm92280 » Wed Sep 30, 2009 8:35 pm

I have a ton of RB depth (Chris Johnson, Tomlinson, Pierre Thomas, Sproles, McFadden, etc.) and have been looking at doing some consolidating some of my RBs, as I didn't like having to juggle so many different guys based on matchups. So, I have been able to strike a 2-for-1 deal in which I will be giving up Ray Rice & Darren McFadden and getting Brandon Jacobs. McFadden and RIce are both excellent talents (IMO, of course) but they are both limited by their current situations. McFadden is limited by a team that is completely void of a passing game, and likely will continue to be void of a passing game for the rest of the season. Ray Rice is obviously limited by the presence of McGahee.

While Jacobs isn't a true workhorse by himself (basically being in a 60/40 split with Ahmad Bradshaw), its tough to ignore what he's done the last 2 seasons with even limited carries. He might not score 15 touchdowns again but 1,000+ yards and 10 TDS seems to be a virtual certainty as long as he plays at least 12 or 13 games (IMO, of course). I felt even better about the decision because I was able to pick up Ahmad Bradshaw a week ago, so, if something happens to Jacobs, I have his (very capable) replacement on my team.

Ultimately, I see Jacobs as an every week starter for me and would use him as my RB2 or RB3 (depending on how much of a workload Pierre Thomas can carve out). This trade also makes me confident enough to possibly trade Ladanian Tomlinson for a much better QB2, which I need, as we must start 2 QBs every week in my league. I am planning to offer him in a 1-for-1 deal to the McNabb owner in my league. Both are injured but McNabb should be back in the next 2 weeks and he has as much talent to work with as he has had in a long time, so I still feel he could have a very good season. That would be my next potential move and would have me feeling pretty good about my team, if I could pull it off.

Anyway, sorry for the rambling. What do you guys think of the Jacobs trade and of a potential LT trade?

Here is what my team will look like, if the Brandon Jacobs trade goes through (keep in mind, we must start 2 QBs):

QB: T. Brady
QB: T. Edwards
RB: C. Johnson
RB: B. Jacobs
WR: D. Jackson
WR: V. Jackson
WR/TE: P. Harvin
WR/RB: P. Thomas
TE: C. Cooley
K. N. Kaeding
DEF: Denver

Bench:

L. Tomlinson (RB)
D. Sproles (RB)
A. Bradshaw (RB)
M. Bell (RB)
TJ Houshmanzadeh (WR)
J. Gage (WR)

looks great to me. Jacobs should have a big year. Rice shares with 2 other RBs and Raiders suck.

Whats your thoughts on my post below?

I like the trade for you, you are getting a rb that will get his touches each week and is the goal line rb for NY. You lost depth, but with your rb's you can afford to do it. I also agree that you need to improve your qb #2 and get an upgrade from Edwards. Throw out the trade for McNabb and see what happens. Good luck.
