Bye week fix -- drop a good rb for a fill-in wr?

Postby jackie hayes » Sat Oct 03, 2009 10:34 am

I didn't plan well, and I'm left with an empty receiver slot and only rbs to drop. Should I drop a good back for a one week fill-in or just chance it with an empty spot?

My rbs:

Grant
Brown
Rice
Westbrook
Moreno

My only two active receivers are Jennings and Walter -- Fitz and Desean Jackson are both on byes. There are decent receivers available (Garcon, Knox, Sims-Walker, Mason), but is it worth dropping one of those backs for any of those (as opposed to just leaving the spot empty)?

I also have Celek (also on a bye) -- drop him for a wide-out?

Help me out of my fix! WHIR, just leave a link, thanks.

No definitely do not drop any of those RBs or Celek for a one week starter. Is there anyone else you can move? Garcon would be a great fill in but not at the expense of any of the guys you mentioned. Do you have any backup scrub QBs or a second kicker or defense or anything? Depending on your scoring system (namely if its PPR) you could drop your defense for garcon who will likely score more points for you this week then you can drop or trade him to re-aquire your d after this week. If its not ppr id stand pat and hope your other guys carry you this week. Another option would be to seek a last second trade. Find a team hurting for RBs and offer them moreno for a 2nd or 3rd WR. Good luck man

No, my main qb is Warner (eh...), who's also on a bye, so I have a backup going this week (and going qb-less obviously hurts more than going wr-less). I could go d-less, k-less (only have one of each), or drop Vernon Davis (Celek fill-in). But those and the rbs are really the only options.

Non-ppr. Thanks for the help.

I would drop Davis since you don't want to drop an RB and get one of those WR's of WW, depending on your match up I would make sure you have a starter going at every slot. I would also look to see if you could trade any of the rb's to get something back instead of dumping one of them.

Depending on who your defense is and what matchup they have id either go D-less or drop vernon for garcon this week. Unless you can swing a trade which be the best move. Unless your D has a tasty matchup id drop them for garcon. if you have a good D who will get snapped up right away (Pitt, balt etc) id bail davis for garcon and go TE-less this week. What does your waiver wire system look like? Is it bidding bucks, first come first serve, or waiver priority? If you are sure you could get your dropped guy back you could drop moreno five minutes before 1 tomorrow and then get him back after this week. Thats risky and potentially expensive bbucks wise though. Id say best bet is drop your D or davis for a WR. You'll never start vernon after this week with celek on your roster (barring injury or an unexpected change in their values) so it wouldnt kill you to roll without a TE this week if thats what you have to do. Hope it works out for you
