I'm in 2nd place in my 10 team non-keeper yahoo league and feel that I have a very good team but I have one serious flaw: I am starting Trent Edwards every week as my QB2 (we have to start two QBs every single week). While he has been serviceable for the first few games, I am worried that he is going to be a very big problem for me down the stretch and, to win my league, I think I have to do something to improve my starter in that spot. That likely will have to come via trade, as our free agent pool is quite thin (since everyone has 2 or 3 QBs on their roster) with Matt Stafford, Jake Delhomme and Derek Anderson as the top options. Stafford could have some decent numbers as a spot starter (since Detroit will be playing from behind so much) but I don't see any of those guys as the answer.
My biggest trade chips are definitely my running backs. I feel that I have very good talent and depth there with Chris Johnson, Pierre Thomas and Brandon Jacobs as my every-week starters (and good ones at that) and some quality backups with Ladanian Tomlinson (I know, I know but he's still going to get a pretty decent workload in SD), Darren Sproles, Ahmad Bradshaw (an underrated backup RB) and Rashard Mendhenhall. My first inclination was to toss around Ladanian Tomlinson to owners in my league, hoping for a 1-for-1 swap that could nab me an above average QB but, after testing the waters, I can see that the response for him is lukewarm and that I'm not going to get a capable starter for him. Thats what I was hoping for, as I really did not want to make a move with one of my top 3 backs (Chris Johnson, Pierre Thomas, Jacobs). I feel very good about that trio and believe that, as long as they are healthy, I have one of the very best RB starting groups in my league (maybe the best).
However, since Tomlinson can't bring me what I want, I may be forced to compromise and give up one of my top 3 backs. It might sound absolutely nuts but I'm thinking that maybe the best way to go is to offer one of my top three back with Trent Edwards to another team for a QB/RB combo (with the QB obviously being better than Edwards and the RB coming my way obviously weaker than my RB).
The combo that I'm thinking of offering is Chris Johnson & Trent Edwards. I know it might sound nuts to offer Johnson, as I do know that he's a top 10 player and a guy who should give between 1,800 and 2,000 all-purpose yards but he's also the guy who will bring the most in return.
So, if I did offer Johnson & Edwards, which duo would be the best in return? :
Eli Manning/Cedric Benson
Ben Roethlisberger/Ray Rice
Carson Palmer/Knowshon Moreno
Matt Schaub/Joseph Addai
Donavan McNabb/Steve Slaton
Those are tandems that I am looking at (I haven't proposed anything yet). If you have other thoughts on how to make something work, feel free to suggest it.
