What does that clock say again?

Postby spodog » Fri Oct 09, 2009 1:20 pm

During the 1st round of the 2003 NFL Draft, the Minnesota Vikings, while attempting to complete a trade with another team, inadvertantly let their allotted time expire for their pick (the 7th overall), and were skipped, as the team with the 8th pick stepped up and drafted ahead of them.

What was the team the Vikings were trying to execute a trade with when this fiasco occurred?

The Vikings claimed they had completed a trade with the Baltimore Ravens with 32 seconds remaining before their time expired, but league officials at the draft indicated that they did not receive confirmation from the Ravens that a trade was completed, and with time expired, the draft order proceeded to Carolina.

The trade was supposedly going to allow Baltimore to move up 3 spots in the first round so they could select Byron Leftwhich. In return, Minnesota was to have received additional picks from the Ravens in the fourth and sixth rounds of the draft.
