I was just offered Steve Slaton/Kevin Smith/Knowshon Moreno and Randy Moss for Cedric Benson and Steve Smith (CAR). My other RBs are Ryan Grant, Rashard Mendenhall, and Jonathan Stewart and WRs are Mario Manningham, Mike Sims Walker, and T.O.(who I am dropping for Braylon Edwards). Should I do this? I'm thinking yes and taking Steve Slaton. Any thoughts? I will help all that helps!
Moss is a definite upgrade over Smith, even if Smith picks his game up.
Slaton looked great last year but is struggling a bit more. I think I like K Smith a bit better. He is in no danger of losing touches and can receive as well. Both are downgrades from Benson but you normally have to give up something to get something, and Moss is worth it.
How many RB's you can start will make this worth it or not. If you can start 3 Rb's I'd go for it. You'd have enough options to start three decent one's each week. I think what you need to look at is this whether you can start two or three RB's. You're not losing anything at WR, Moss is better than Smith. So your looking at C. Benson for 3 potential starting RB's. I'd pull the trigger on this trade. If you don't like having to choose who to start between Moreno/Smith/Grant/Slaton you could always then try to trade two of them for a stud RB. Then would still have a stud and two others to choose from each week.
I hit accept right now. Moss will bounce back and be much better then S. Smith and Benson is in the same class as those other 3 and your getting a ton of depth and possible trade bait for later in the year. Do it and feel good.
Its tough. Slaton is an awesome buy low guy, but he hasn't really looked so great yet. Moreno has the starting job (for now), and Smith definitely has the starting job. However, Moreno didn't do much as the starter this week, and Smith is on a bad team that will be behind a lot. If you are ok with some risk, I'd go with Slaton. He could bust out and be a stud again, or he could keep this not so great performance up. If you don't like risk, then I'd probably go with Smith. You know what you're getting with him.
