Is it unethical to bench all your players???

We have someone in our league who is now playing only for first round pick next year, and he is benching all his players the rest of the year. Should this not be allowed? I don't think it should.

no, it shouldn't. but your commish (this is a keeper league, right?) should've written into the league rules that this is not allowed. the commish should've seen this as a possibility. now he'll have to make a decision on how to handle it in the middle of the season -- and that guy that's benching his players will probably be pissed if he's not allowed to do it. it's an unethical move -- but if i were that owner, i'd have to ask "where in the rules does it say i can't do that?".

If I were the commish, I'd tell the owner that if he doesn't start his players, he won't be allowed back in the league next year.

Yes, it's unethical. Now whether or not he can do it is dependant upon if it's in the league rules or not. There should be something in the rules that shows he cannot do that. Good luck.

Easy to solve. Tell that team that they have to field a team or their team will be dissolved and they will not be invited back. If they don't comply, screw them. When they ask, "Where in the rules, blah blah blah," you simply reply, "Where in the rules does it say that you have to play here next year?"

This is exactly why we always do a random drawing to determine draft order.

Who cares if it is not in the rules? You don't have to be a jerk.

I posted on the message boards that I think it is unethical... just like the TJ Duckett for Shannan Sharpe trade last week (quiting team handed a competitive team he works with sharpe).

a league is only as fair as its rules. there isn't an owner out there that isn't going to try to pull the occasional "unethical" move if it benefits his team. if there are no rules in place -- then this kind of stuff will happen.

Not cool. You can do what we do and have the last place team renamed by the league next year. The names we threw around were dirty and the one we settled on was not so pleasant.

I think we should do something like the loser bracket playoff is to determine who gets what draft pick... winner getting the first.
