Trading a starter for handcuffs WHIR

Postby Sex Panther » Fri Oct 23, 2009 12:13 pm

I'm contemplating the following trade offer if the current deal I have on the table doesn't get accepted (Jennings & Ochocinco for Andre Johnson).

12 team redraft, sitting at 5-1 in 1st place, QB/WR/WR/RB/RB/TE/K/Flex/K/D

My team...

QB M. Schaub, M. Hasselbeck
WR R. Moss, G. Jennings, C. Ochocinco, N. Burleson, A. Gonzalez
RB L. Tomlinson, R. Brown, J. Addai, D. Brown, M. Bell, J. Fargas
TE O. Daniels
K S. Gostkowski
D Minnesota

His team...

QB C. Palmer, D. Garrard
WR T. Houshmanzadeh, E. Royal, S. Breaston, P. Garcon
RB B. Jacobs, C. Portis, C. Benson, R. Williams, D. Sproles, C. Buckhalter
TE C. Cooley
K O. Mare
D New Orleans, Houston

As you can see, he's in pretty bad shape at WR, he's got a lot of bodies at RB - but the "name guys" really aren't performing.

Looking at my roster (if I can't land AJ), IMO, I have pretty good depth at both RB & WR - I'm more than fine w/ Brown/LT/Addai as my 1/2/Flex.

I was thinking of offering Jennings (and Fargas) for Williams & Sproles as a pair of insurance policies for Brown & LT - I already have Addai's handcuff rostered.

Does these deal make sense - not sure how I feel about moving Jennings (even though he's off to a slow start) for 2 guys I'd only play if there's an injury? Obviously it becomes null & void if I move Jennings & Ocho for AJ.

Thanks & WHIR

normally im not a big fan of trading starters for handcuffs but in your case with Ronnie and LT (i love both for the record) i think its almost a MUST. Especially for LT. There are big points to be had in the RB position on both those teams and by getting there backups you've garanteed yourself production at your RB positions for the remainder of the year. Unless something freaky happens... but imma drop that subject cause i dont wanna jinx you lol. Im not gona lie it seems a bit steep a price for Jennings who i think is still a prime candidate for a big year despite his early performance, but i think getting those handcuffs could potentially be priceless

I hear you on Jennings, if you had to choose - would you rather have Jennings or Ochocinco moving forward? I just landed Randy (for S. Smith NYG prior to last weeks 3 TD effort) - so both Jennings and 85 are much more expendable than they were a week ago
