As much as I don't care for Meshawn the Bucs are going to be hurting without him. Joe J. didn't look that great last week and we really don't have anyone else beside's McCardell who has stepped up this year.

The Bucs cannot release Johnson because they would take an immediate $7 million cap hit and they're currently just $395,000 under the cap, so releasing him would put them $6.605 million over the cap.

so paying a player keeps them under the cap while firing a player puts them over the cap. makes nonsense to me
