Trade my Mendenhall for Gates? (dynasty league)

Postby ThePrez » Sun Nov 01, 2009 2:59 pm

I got another owner that really wants Mendy. He has both Gates and ODaniels at TE, and I need a TE.

Below is all the league info. This is for a 12 team dynasty league which we keep everyone.

Weekly starting positions: QB, WR, WR, WR, RB, RB, TE, WR/RB, K, DEF

Scoring: Standard Yahoo plus 0.5 pts per catch

Roster:

QB -
Philip Rivers
Jason Campbell

WR -
Andre Johnson
Marques Colston
Mario Manningham
Eddie Royal
Steve Breaston
Antonio Bryant

RB –
Adrian Peterson
Chris Johnson
Rashard Mendenhall
Pierre Thomas
Ahmed Bradshaw
Felix Jones

TE –
Dustin Keller
Tony Scheffler
Brandon Pettigrew

K –
Mason Crosby

DEF –
Indy
NYJets

If PThomas really took off this season, then I could get away with AP, CJ, and PT starting each week... Mendy (and some weeks Bradshaw) has really helped with my flex play.

But what are your thoughts? I know that RBs hold more value, but do you feel Mendy is going to be for real for Pitt (for the long haul since we keep everyone each year)?

The other team has made a few offers before... mainly looking to get Mendy and ERoyal.

The other teams top guys are: Fitz, CalJohnson, Bowe, Sims-Walker, SJax, DeWilliams. He has been running a WR at flex just about every week... so giving him Mendy would really help him out (since he has 2 top TEs).

Do I take the 1 for 1 offer... or do you see a better 2 for 2 offer I can counter with?

Since ODaniels got injured today, I'm not sure how long the deal will be available to accept!

Much thanks!!

Anyone??? Really worried that the other team will pull the offer back cause of the ODaniels injury. Just not sure if the deal helps or hurts me for the long haul.

Thanks!

He probably will pull back the offer next time he checks the site.

I'd rather hang onto Mendenhall than get Gates anyways. In terms of value, Mendenhall's is potentially higher for the next few years.

If it was me, I'd try to pry Owen Daniels and a WR out of him instead. While it may not give you the same impact for this season, it puts you in a much better position for next season and the future. You'll have a young top tier TE and upgrade a position where you can improve (yes, Andre & Colston are studs but in a league where you could potentially start 4 WR, your WR3 options are underwhelming and that's magnified during bye weeks). You might have to include an additional player but it's worth kicking the tires to buying low on Owen Daniels.

You could even play the sympathy card: "I know you just lost Daniels for the season so I understand that you can't move Gates but I still think we can work something out...". It's more in your favor to be the nice guy with him than to accept the trade for Gates when he's his only healthy TE and wouldn't have otherwise made an offer like that in that scenario. It comes off as sleazy accepting his offer from previous the context that and it won't look good to the other managers either. It's a long-term league, you want to be on everyone's good side as much as possible.
