I play in a 12 team league where we play 2 QBs, 2 RBS, 3 WRs, 1 TE, 1 K and 1 Def. I'm tied for first with the most points. Here's my roster:
QBs: Schaub, A. Smith RBs: Rice, Turner, J. Jones, Fargis WRs: Wayne, Ochocinco, Steve Smith, Breaston, Evans TE: Shockey K: Crosby D: Jets
I need a defense for the week and the best defense on WW are the Redskins. A team approached me about getting Smith. Smith has been disappointing (not all his fault) and his schedule is brutal. Crabtree has gotten a ton of target his 2 games and is the clear number 1 guy in SF. Is this a stupid deal for me? I like getting the Colts for the rest of the year, too.

12 Team League. We start 2 QBs and get .5 PPR, otherwise standard scoring QBs: Stafford, Fitzpatrick, Collins RBs: Charles, Mendenhall, Best, Starks, Carter, Karim WRs: D. Jackson, Marshall, S. Smith, Green, TE: Hernandez, Cook
The problem with this trade is Who are you going to drop?? Once you add in one of your players it becomoes Smith and ______ for Crabtree and COlts. I would personally stay away from crabtree. He is a rookie and going to be very inconsistant.
I don't ever like trading for DEF. Indy plays HOU this week so I don't think they are necessarily a great play. What about ATL or SEA? Both play bad teams (Skins and Lions) this week. You could probably go to the waiver each week rather than trade for def. Bottom line, Marlin Jackson a starting safety and a starting LB went down for the year JUST THIS WEEK. Don't trade for INDY DEF. Good luck
That might be true in some cases.....but I think that stigma is disappearing.....see Percy Harvin, Mike Wallace, i mean they might not be putting up 20 every week.....but 6-7 garaunteed most every week is solid......Crabtree's first two games were for for 56 and 81 yds on 11 catches and 15 targets.....thats 5-6 catches a game, anyone of which could have been for a TD......I think 81 yds and a TD would be a great stat line for someone you could get relatively cheap like that.
Which Steve Smith are you talking about just to clarify?
Carlina's Smith. And, we get .5 and Crabtree got a lot of targets his first 2 games. Not sure why that would change.

I think you should do the deal. Getting the COLTS Defense is a major plus because they are a defense that produces points. Crabtree and Smith are a toss up, but since you're getting a Defense, I say do it.
im not sure if it is a redraft or a keeper but either way i would do the deal. smith has no doubt disappointed and crabtree has been great the past 2 weeks considering how much time he has missed. crabtree is being targeted as often as a number 1 receiver and will continue to get better each with. do the deal.
You're right in that Caronlina's schedule does get pretty brutal, and Smith is likely going to keep seeing double coverage most of the way...if Delhomme even actually throws him the ball. Carolina wins when they run, and now that they have two consistently-healthy RB's, they're finally starting to see that. Smith is still a great talent, but he's hurt significantly by his environment.
Crabtree, on the other hand, seems to have the confidence of his coach and QB. SF likes to run, but even Alex Smith is having a better year than Delhomme. And as you've said, the number of targets for Crabtree, considering he's only started a couple games, is promising. That, and his weeks 13-16 schedule isn't too rough; assuming you're playing in a standard 16-week league, and you make it to the championship game, you get Crabtree against Detroit that week rather than Smith @ NYG. I'd take a home game against the lowly Lions over an away game vs. the Giants any day.
I say given your remaining depth at WR, and the fact that you do need a decent D (even though Indy might not be a super-great play this week), do the trade.
Perfect example of a situation where evaluating the trade itself just couldn't be done in a vacuum (i.e., without knowledge of your roster and standing in the league).
Edit: And thanks for the help on mine.
(0.5 PPR, 12-team league) QB: Vick, RG3 RB: McFadden, Matthews, K. Smith, R. Williams, M. Goodson WR: Nicks, S. Smith, Britt, LaFell TE: Hernandez, Pitta K: Bironas DEF: Spot start (Cin in wk4)
