Harvin/Bradshaw for Welker/Moats

Postby tobias875 » Fri Nov 06, 2009 4:20 pm

Ok I'm in a quasi-keeper league where we can keep 2 players drafted after the 6th round, Harvin was offered to me and he fits the bill there but i also have Knowshon, Ray Rice, Cooley, Crabtree. I was wondering if it would be worth trading welker and moats for harvin and bradshaw.

16 team league
1 pt/10 yds rush&rec, 1 pt/reception, 1 pt/20 return yds, all tds 6 pts

QB Brees
WR Bowe
WR Welker
WR Derrick Mason
RB Ray Rice
TE Kellen Winslow
W/R Knowshon Moreno

BN Antonio Bryant, Kevin Boss, Chris Cooley, Sammy Morris, Mark Clayton, Michael Crabtree, Ryan Moats

Eh I would't do it. WElker is a PPR machine and will get so much yardage every week. Moats has the potential to be a hit. Just sit tight and see what happens.

Help?

It depends on what you want. You still 'in it' this season or are you looking forward towards next season?

I personally wouldn't do it. Although Percy is doing good the question still needs to be asked...Who's gonna be throwing to him next year??!!

At least with Welker he is consistent and will continue to produce for you this season.

The only upside to you is that Bradshaw is definitely an upgrade over Moats whom I expect to go back to the sidelines soon.

It's close ... really close. I'm going to go against the grain and say I lean towards favoring the trade. Here's why:

1) Return yardage counts. That's HUGE for Harvin. I'm in a PPR league that counts return yardage too (even weighted less than what you have). In my league, Harvin ranks as the #3 WR. It's true that steady jobs as returners are tough to predict. But in Harvin's case, the only reason he would lose the job is if he started playing every down on offense. Either way, he gives you value. And with as spectacular as he's been returning, I don't see him losing that job (this year at least).

2) Keepers. If I understand correctly, Welker can't be a keeper. But Harvin can (in addition to Rice, who almost certainly has to be your first keeper pick).

So for this season, I think Welker and Harvin are at least a wash (which is generous ... like I mentioned, Harvin is a decent bet to outscore Welker in a return yardage league). And Bradshaw is an upgrade over Moats (I think Bradshaw's foot gets better and he starts scoring like earlier in the season, while production from Moats is tough to predict ... I doubt Moats is the Texans RB of the future). So I think your team is a little better this year. And set up to be better for next year, since you'd lose Welker but have the option of keeping Harvin.
