I feel like I ask about my WR situation every week, but I guess it goes with the territory when you've got a mixture of underachieving preseason WR1s and overachieving waiver wire fodder.
This week, I've got Hakeem Nicks on a bye, so I just need to pick one more to sit out of Santonio Holmes, Greg Jennings, Steve Smith-CAR and Hines Ward. Holmes and Ward are v. Cincinnati, Jennings is v. Dallas and Smith is v. Atlanta.
If it helps at all here's the info I'm looking at as I try to make a decision...
2009 Fantasy Points Per Week: H. Ward 8.4, G. Jennings 7.8, S. Holmes 6.6, S.Smith-CAR 6.6 CBS Projections: S. Smith-CAR 13, S. Holmes 11, H. Ward 11, G. Jennings 6 Atlanta pass yards/game allowed: 261 Cincy pass yards/game allowed: 260 Dallas pass yards/game allowed: 250
I put zero stock in CBS's 'guru' and the projected points he comes up with. Jennings has been getting the looks; I think he does a bit better this week. I voted for Santonio b/c notwithstanding the denver game, he's kinda become an afterthought.
I feel your pain with respect to 'middling' WRs. I'm starting Jennings and Ward in one league and benching MSW due to the matchup against the Jets. IT's all about the matchups for me.
Jennings has been coming on lately, Ward is consistent, and Smith is always a threat to have a big game, more so now than ever this year with Delhomme playing a bit better of late.
I voted for Holmes as well. Big Ben was pressured a lot last weekend at Denver, and seemed to have trouble getting rid of the ball at times. While Cinci probably doesn't have the same pass rush as Denver, I still hate to put all of my eggs in one basket. If Ben is off, the both Ward AND Holmes could suffer - this just would minimize your risk here. I think GB might be on a tear to prove that their game against TB was a fluke.
Oops, I voted wrong. I would bench smith. The Steelers are passing early and often. They could both get a TD. Smith is a non-factor on the Panters. They are the DWilliams show.
Ward is almost always good for a red zone TD against the Bengals. I would start him over Holmes. The Cincy corners have done a good job with the deep WR this year.
12 team, QB,RB,WR,WR,TE,K,DEF. No PPR. Bonus points for 100 rush/rec and 300 passing.
Jennings is due for a huge game and is getting a lot more targets now, Ward is the man this year, and S. Smith always has big games against ATL.
