Benching Studs w/ Bad Matchups for Scrubs with Good Ones?

Postby EAwer » Wed Nov 18, 2009 9:02 pm

So I have a few typical every-week starts who I am actually considering benching because they have terrible matchups. Im thinking of plugging-in lesser quality players who have excellent matchups. I may be just over thinking this but hear me out:

In my league we start 1 RB, 2 WR and 1 RB/WR flex. My options:

T. Jones vs. NEP
B. Jacobs vs. ATL
F. Gore vs. GBP
B. Scott vs. OAK
R. Moss vs. NYJ
S. Holmes vs. KCC
S. Breaston vs. STL

My typical starts here would be Gore, Jones, Moss and Holmes/Breaston (depending on matchup). First, am I ridiculous for thinking about starting Scott in a starting role in a run-heavy offense vs. a pitiful Raiders run D, instead of Gore and Jones who both play in struggling offenses and are playing tough Run D's? What about benching Moss against NYJ and Darrel Revis (who shut him down completely earlier in the season) for Breaston who has an excellent matchup?

Also, on a side note, who you guys like, Cutler vs. PHI or Ryan vs. NYG?

Please talk some sense into me/tell me who you would start! WHIR, leave a link.

i can understand MAYBE starting scott as long as benson is ruled out, BUT benching Moss is alittle hard to swallow..the only way I'd start Breaston over a #1 wr is IF Boldin is out and even then...i'd think about it

Why would you bench T.Jones. It isn't a bad matchup coming from a pats fan. Gore is a must start and so is moss. Your only decision is Holmes or breaston and with holmes playing KC that isn't even a big decision.

My thread is called who do I go with?????
I'l try to post a link:

I tried twice but don't know if it will work.

I would say if Benson is out go with Scott for your RB. (if he doesn't start Gore, better of two bad matchups)

I would also say Jacobs vs the Falcons as your flex as Falcons are terrible against the run.

I would go with Moss and Breaston for your WR's.

After the last time the Pats played the Jets and got humbled and also because of this past Sunday with the Pats blowing a game they really had a good chance to win, I expect a very mad Pats team this week to dismantle the Jets. I also think Breaston and the Cards will totally have their way with the Rams. Though I could see you wanting to start Holmes over Breaston.

In my league we start 1 RB, 2 WR and 1 RB/WR flex. My options:

T. Jones vs. NEP
B. Jacobs vs. ATL
F. Gore vs. GBP
B. Scott vs. OAK
R. Moss vs. NYJ
S. Holmes vs. KCC
S. Breaston vs. STL

I underlined the guys I'd go with.

Jacobs is easy- coming off the bye, playing a weak run defense, facing a team missing their elite RB, putting pressure on their offense.
Gore is tougher, but he's still elite, Smith isn't Hill and gives the air attack more bite. GB might have a good run defense on paper, but it's built on fluff matchups, ie Chi, Cle, Det, StL. Even the Dallas matchup isn't a good check on GB's run defense abilities, since both Jones and Barber are coming back from injuries and Choice, their healthiest back, got a total of 4 touches. I'd consider benching him for Scott, but woudln't.

Breaston doesn't deserve to be started over Moss, even considering the matchup. Breaston'll be pushed aside as Boldin appears to be about 80-90% back.
