Another deadline day offer ... Favre for Charles/Betts. WHIR

Postby schmidty » Fri Nov 20, 2009 6:17 pm

I've been sending out feelers for a while offering my QB depth for RB help. Of course, someone waits until the last minute to send me an offer ... probably prompted by the fact that his starter (Orton) is hurt, and there really isn't squat on the WW in such a deep league. I've been having awful luck with RBs this year (already lost Washington and FWP from my draftees, FA pickup LJ to stupidity, Portis/Brown to lingering injuries, and Forte just generally underperforms). It doesn't help that in this league all FAs go to waivers starting Sunday @ noon until Wed - and there always seems to be a guy one spot ahead of me picking up that weeks prime claims. Anyway, my team is below. 14-team Yahoo redraft, pretty standard scoring, starting positions of QB, 3 WRs, 2 RBs, TE, K, DEF.

QB: Big Ben, Favre
WR: Wayne, Ochocinco, Hicks, Bowe :-{
RB: Forte, Portis, Maroney, Snelling, Brown
TE: Witten
K: Crosby
DEF: Vikings

His team:
QB: Cutler
WR: Moss, V Jackson, MSW, Garcon
RB: Benson, Slaton, Carnell Williams, Charles, Forsett, Betts
TE: Carlson
K: Gostkowski
DEF: Packers, Bengals

I'm 5-5, and heading in the wrong direction. It might be time to sacrifice depth (like having 2 top 10 QBs) for a position I need help in. Favre is good, but we only start 1 QB - it might even be a bit of a blessing not to have to play the "pick the right QB" game. At RB, Forte is the only guy I even know will be starting 2 weeks from now (barring injury). If I did the trade, I'd have Forte and Betts/Portis as sure-starters - with at least Maroney and Charles on the bench if even another injury popped up. I'd probably drop Brown (just doesn't seem like he'll ever be a dependable play this year) or Bowe (though I'm prefer to hold on to him in case I'm still playing in weeks 15 and 16 - in such a deep league, there's really nothing on the WW and I know someone else will claim him).

What do you think? Accept, reject, or counter-offer (though there are only a few hours left)? Leave a link and I'll answer yours.

It's a tough call. You need help in the RB position but you're getting to b/c level backs. Maybe try getting Slaton straight up for Favre

On that front if you don't get any other offers i would take the deal as I think Big Ben will be your starter for the rest of the year.

I couldn't agree more. Try Slaton straight up, if not, I'd take this deal as I like Big Ben for the rest of the year.

I like Big Ben as well... plus Favre can't keep up the streak of low int's he has. I agree with the others.

I disagree...I would try to get more for Favre...don't make him stronger out of desperation. You have to play some defense as well. If you can get some better players, do it...otherwise I would sit on your team.

Although, if you really are scared of carrying Maroney as possibly your no. 2 the rest of the way until Portis heals then you have to take it.

I don't see Maroney's value staying up. Morris is just about due back...

Just not trustworthy. Betts gives you a situation locked up.

Charles is the starter the rest of the way. I like this deal for you.

Eventually, Snelling will lose his value when Turner comes back nad Norwood gets healthy.

What STARTING QBs are available? (Please post them).

Thanks.
