First Year or a 12 Team PPR 3 Man Keeper League with a $500 Annual Buyin
Oddly enough, I'm sitting at 4-6 with this team due to some poor scheduling luck but the wild card team in this league is the team with the highest total points at the end of week 14 who did not win one of the 3 divisions. Currently, I'm 1st in the league in total points and the only other team who's close to me in points all but has his division locked up. So at this point, I'm considering myself playoff bound as the wild card team. As anyone would do, I'm now focusing on building a team who can maintain my scoring average these last 4 weeks of the regular season and then have blow up potential weeks 15 and 16 to get me through the playoffs and ultimately win the championship.
Unfortunately, the trade deadline is this Monday (we're allowed to make trades while games are in progress but the trade does not become effective until the following Tuesday) and I've only been able to make one trade to forgo some of my depth and keeper potential to make a push this year at the championship. I was fortunate enough to broker a deal where I gave up MSW with Portis/Betts for RWayne. The trade itself was basically me giving up some RB depth in Portis/Betts as well as keeper potential in MSW who's the 4th ranked WR in our league in PPG a to better my WR2 production. The owner who gave up RWayne has an outside chance of making the playoffs this year if he gets very lucky, but most likely he's looking towards next year. That owner had just lost RBrown due to injury and was left with KSmith, LMaroney, MBell, and WMcGahee as his only RBs so acquiring any startable RB was a priority for him. And of course acquiring MSW who's produced well this year as a possible 11th round keeper sets him up to have a strong team to start his draft next year as he will have RBrown as a 2nd round pick or WWelker as a 4th round pick in addition to JFlacco as a 9th round pick and MSW as an 11th round pick.
So at this point, I've got a few other offers out hoping to make one or two more deadline trades, but I'm going off the assumption that this will be my team for the playoff run:
Roster
2QB - MSchaub, DMcNabb, JFreeman, KKolb
2/3RB - SJackson, THightower, CWells, JForsett, MBush, SMorris, SGado
2/3WR - RWayne, RMoss, DBowe, MCrabtree, CChambers
1TE - VDavis
2K - JReed, MPrater
1D - Cardinals
My Thoughts (Please feel free to comment)
QBs - Since we are required to start 2 QBs, I love my combo of Schaub and McNabb. I had been trying to trade McNabb but now with the Eagles having a limited running game, I could easily see McNabb throwing 40+ times per game for the remainder of the season. Kolb is being kept around as McNabb's protection and Freeman is being kept around as Schaub protection as I don't have any faith that Grossman will produce should Schaub go down.
RBs- SJax is my RB1 and carries my RBs. I don't like that I'm always guessing on my 2nd RB between Hightower and Wells but I suppose things could be worse. My main concern here though is my depth and lack of flex options. Unless JForsett remains the starter once JJones comes back or MBush or SMorris catch fire, I'm going to be in trouble if SJax goes down because I don't think Gado will be able to produce a fraction of what SJax does in that offense. Right now, I'm planning on using Wells and Hightower the same weeks when the matchup calls for it as my RB2 and flex players since this is a PPR league.
WRs - This is the part of my team that will carry me if I win it all. RWayne and RMoss are my bread and butter. If either of them go down, I'm done for. Bowe was supposed to be my 3rd WR/flex option but his suspension hurt that idea. Thankfully, he should be back week 15 just in time for the first week of the playoffs. So with Bowe out, Crabtree becomes my WR3 as I can't let him go due to his keeper potential for next year since he was drafted in the 14th round. CChambers was just acquired after the RWayne trade opened up some roster spots as my emergency WR if needed.
TE - VDavis has been ranked anywhere from the first best to the third best TE all year in our seasonal rankings and there are very few TEs I would want in place of him.
K - They're kickers. It's so hard to project kickers and even harder to trade for them apparently.
Def. - I went with Arizona at this point due to their schedule for the rest of the season. I'm trying to trade for the Bengals, but I don't see that happening. I'll most likely continue to use WW defenses as I have been all season.
So there you have it. I don't think many people come through this forum during the season so I doubt I'll get too many replies to this post but I wanted to at least put my thoughts down to get a different perspective on where I stand. But anyone who does comment, I thank you in advance.
