Everybody drafts RBs early, but that didn't work for me last year as all 3 of my 1st picks who were RBs got injured and the rest of my roster was pathetic. WRs are more reliable imo.
So this year i tried a different approach, even though it sounded retarded i picked moss with my first, andre johnson next, ronnie brown in the 3rd, vincent jackson in the 4th, hines ward and so on. I valued WRs and all of my WRs have been great this year. I play in espn and can start 2 or 3 RBs or 2 or 3 WRs. I have been starting moss, johnson and jackson and ronnie brown turned out to be the steal of the draft. im the best team in my league at 8-2. But i have been thin at RB, my starters were Mendenhall and Brown. Now Brown is on IR and i picked up Beanie Wells out of desperation. Wells has a favorable match up so i might be set for this week. But i'm thinking about trading Hines Ward for Portis. I'm hoping he comes back starting in 1 week. But im not sure about this move because Hines Ward is crazy good. He has been playing just as good if not better in some games managing like 15 points easy. I know Santonio Holmes is overrated and Ward is just super underrated which is why i wanted to draft him in the first place but because i have such great depth at WR i can't start him most of the time anyway. Does anyone know how serious Portis' injury is and if it is wise to trade Ward for him. I figure i could take this trade now and it might payoff for me down the stretch towards the playoffs. Your opinions/advice is appreciated.
12 Team League. We start 2 QBs and get .5 PPR, otherwise standard scoring QBs: Stafford, Fitzpatrick, Collins RBs: Charles, Mendenhall, Best, Starks, Carter, Karim WRs: D. Jackson, Marshall, S. Smith, Green, TE: Hernandez, Cook
I agree with Hoosierdad. Portis is the epitome of overrated IMO. I believe Beanie is going to finish strong this year and make a case for being starter next year. Definitely see if there's ANY other decent RB you could trade for though. In case I'm wrong.

okay well i don't think Portis is overrated at all. Just look at his stats every season. There are many issues to Portis, he plays folr the worst organization (and one of the worst teams) in football. They are trying to turn a QB whose strength is ability to rush out of the pocket into a west coast pass first QB (and offense) and it hasn't been working for 2 years yet they don't stop trying. Now they went back to running the football last week and Betts had a good day. That could be Portis every week when he comes back.
And believe me, i've tried getting a trade done for several other RBs, but no one is willing to trade me a RB for Ward, i think partly because people think Ward sucks but this guy has been scoring like crazy every week so only i get it - which becomes an issue when trying to trade him. My first real chance to land a RB came when Portis is out for 2 games.
Beanie is kind of risky imo. Whisenhunt said despite his performance, he won't start because he is a rookie. And the team is a passing team, they were last in rushing attempts last year. I picked up Beanie right when he had a TD weeks ago but has been really disaapointing since (until last week). But you may be right in that things could pick up for him, but i figure its good to have a backup plan or for beanie to be the back up plan. I hear you guys, but im still a bit unsure, i would seriously regret the move especially if one of my 3 starting WRs got injured down the stretch.
