Frank Gore for Sidney Rice?

Postby Flyn high again » Wed Nov 25, 2009 11:11 pm

Guys, before you jump on me and let me know that premier RB1s are not traded for WR1s, let me explain.

I joined another league this year that has some unusual rules. It's a 12 team PPR league but for whatever reasons, running backs do not get PPRs. Only WRs and TEs can collect PPR points. This levels the playing field somewhat between RBs and WRs. You are required to play 1 RB and 1 WR, not two of each. 2 Flex players are allowed. It is also a 1 or 2 position keeper league. Gore and Reggie Wayne were my keepers from the team I purchased to get into the league.

I am already locked in as my division winner with a playoff bye. Question I have is which player would benefit me more both this year and into the future, Gore or Rice. I will keep Reggie Wayne next year but is Sidney Rice going to continue to play at or above the level he is attaining this year? Could he become a keeper allowing me to keep two WRs and pick up a RB in round 3? The partial PPR rules make this question harder than it should be. Straight PPR or no PPR, I keep Gore. Partial PPR, ??? WHIR.

Here's my line up:
[* = starter]

Ben Roethlisberger*
Carson Palmer

Frank Gore*
Rashard Mendenhall*
Brandon Jacobs
Rock Cartwright
Justin Forsett

Reggie Wayne*
Nate Burleson*
Steve Breaston
Braylon Edwards
Robert Meacham

Brent Celek*

John Carney*

C'mon guys, let me know what you think, good or bad. I'm worried I have dropped to 4th place in the power rankings with 2nd and 3rd both in my division. I need to gamble a little and am not sure if Gore or Rice has the better upside.

I would stick with Gore for a few reasons.

1. Depth at RB -- you don't have much behind your starters. I understand you only have to start 1 RB, but I'm not sure how comfortable I would be with Mendy as my RB1 through the playoffs.

2. For the future -- I think Rice is a stud this year and will continue to be... as long as Favre as in town. They have developed a great rapport. Rice and Jackson, not so much in '07-'08 (though in fairness to Rice, he had some injury issues). Would Rosenfels be better? Meh. The $64,000 question is... how much longer does Favre play? Maybe this year and next?

I see Gore as a guy that can be a feature back for several more years... even with your unique PPR scoring, I believe his long-term value is greater.

Stay with Gore. You can find another stud WR comparable to Rice, but not a RB comparable to Gore. he's a consensus top 5 pick. that doesn't change in your particular case.

If you were extremely stacked at RB and could keep Rice for free I might consider it.

And that's consider.
