I have a crucial decision to make in the week that may essentially decide if I make the playoffs. Before the disaster that was week 12, my quarterbacks were Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco. With Ryan out, it looks like I am going to pick up the hot Young off the waiver wire (other options would be Orton @KC, Garrard vs Hou, Campbell vs NO...Young looks better in long run even if the Indy matchup isn't good...especially first week of my playoffs vs Rams), so now I am trying to decide if I should start Flacco @ Green Bay, or Young @ Indy. Of course both matchups suck, as is my luck in fantasy.
Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance. WHIR.

For this week, I think I'd rather have Orton vs. KC. However, if you're in a system that doesn't allow multiple pick ups, than your initial assumption was correct. Go with Young.

My league does allow multiple pickups, so I could, in theory, pickup Orton this week and start him, then drop him next week for Vince. However, I am worried that if I dont grab Young this week, he may not be available next week. This week I am guaranteed whoever I want (I had lowest points last week, making me top of waiver wire), but next week nothing is guaranteed. I don't think Orton is enough of a definite for a good game, regardless of matchup. I'd almost rather risk having Flaco or Young have an average/not so great game (maybe 12-15 points) with almost no chance of them having a terrible game, then play Orton who has a better chance of a horrible game (like 2-8 points) as well as a better chance of a great game (20+). I usually tend to go with the safer, low risk low reward option in these situations. This week I NEED a win, and I think that my team is good enough at the other positions to get by with a FAIR performance by my quarterback (better than my opponent and with better matchups as well this week)...I just can't have an output of zero from the QB spot like I did last week due to Ryan's injury.

As a Colts fan, I can remember playing against VY, and the only positive I believe he will afford you against the Colts is in rushing yards. He's rushed for 224 yards against the Colts in 6 career games, with a high of around 80, though he has eclipsed 50 a couple more times. He will probably throw at least one interception, and the Colts still have a Top 5 Defense against passing. And they are getting stud CB Kelvin Hayden and DE Freeney back from injury for the game this week.
I'd go with Orton or Garrard for sure. KC's secondary is shit.
