Drop Greg Olsen for a RB/WR I might bench anyway?

Postby taw856 » Fri Dec 11, 2009 6:17 pm

This may be a moot argument since I probably won't use any of these players absent a major injury crisis in the next couple weeks (and if I did have a crisis like that, waiver-wire fodder probably won't be good enough to win in the playoffs, anyway!), but just wondering whether you guys would drop TE Greg Olsen for any of the following options:

RB Mike Bell (Wk. 15-16: vDAL, vTB)
RB Ahmad Bradshaw (Wk. 15-16: @WAS, vCAR)
RB Chris Brown (Wk. 15-16: @STL, @MIA)
RB Donald Brown (Wk. 15-16: @JAX, vNYJ)
RB Correll Buckhalter (Wk. 15-16: vOAK, @PHI)
RB Justin Fargas (Wk. 15-16: @DEN, @CLE)
RB Quinton Ganther (Wk. 15-16: vNYG, vDAL)
RB Chris Jennings (Wk. 15-16: @KC, vOAK)
RB Jason Snelling (Wk. 15-16: @NYJ, vBUF)
WR Earl Bennett (Wk. 15-16: @BAL, vMIN)
WR Davone Bess (Wk. 15-16: @TEN, vHOU)
WR Antonio Bryant (Wk. 15-16: @SEA, @NO)
WR Braylon Edwards (Wk. 15-16: vATL, @IND)
WR Devery Henderson (Wk. 15-16: vDAL, vTB)
WR Mario Manningham (Wk. 15-16: @WAS, vCAR)
WR Louis Murphy (Wk. 15-16: @DEN, @CLE)
WR Hakeem Nicks (Wk. 15-16: @WAS, vCAR)
WR Devin Thomas (Wk. 15-16: vNYG, vDAL)
WR Kevin Walter (Wk. 15-16: @STL, @MIA)

MY ROSTER
QB P. Manning, (A. Smith)
RB R. Rice, L. Tomlinson, (J. Forsett)
WR H. Ward, S. Holmes, G. Jennings, (S. Smith-CAR)
TE A. Gates, (G. Olsen)
K G. Hartley
DEF Ravens, (Cardinals)

It's also worth noting that one of the three other likely playoff teams is starting Todd Heap at TE and would probably pick up Olsen, though that team is in my division and can't play me in the first round of the playoffs, so I wouldn't face them until the championship in Week 16, if at all.

i do like jennings but the problem is you wouldnt be able to start him over LT or RICE. id go for Manningham or Nicks preferabley nicks seeing that hes hetting alot of targets. Id be worried about starting two steeler WRs.

Agreed with the above that you're not starting Jennings over LT or Rice. And even though he has good matchups coming up, the RB situation is unclear in CLE. Now they might use Cribbs more.

My sleeper pick in the playoffs is Antonio Bryant. He's got great matchups and he's healthy. It's a pretty risky pick though and I can understand if you don't want to gamble on him.

Safest pick would probably be Nicks. His matchups aren't that great but he's getting open and he's getting a ton of looks.

You could use RB depth for the playoffs though. I have an alternate idea:

Cut the extra D for Manny/Nicks (nicks upside play)
Cut Olsen for Jennings.

Unclear, Jennings is the feature back. JH is used as a smokescreen.

Reluctant to cut the extra DST as the Cardinals play Detroit and St. Louis during the playoffs and the Ravens, well, are the Ravens (and get Jay Cutler's on the road interception show in Wk.15). Don't want either of those DSTs to beat me.

agree, cut xtra def for Nicks because of the 2 PITT WRs. Nicks is going to be the guy the last 3 games for the Giants

Thx for helping me

Went ahead and picked up Nicks for Olsen.

Still leaning against dropping either DST as I just think both Baltimore (v. CHI and Cutlers 17 road INTs) and Arizona (@ hapless Detroit without Kevin Smith) are going to have a huge Wk. 15 and I don't want either of them opposing me.

Had another thought/one last question: Would it be crazy to drop Hines Ward for Chris Jennings? Holmes has outplayed Ward lately and I'd probably only want to start one Pittsburgh WR at a time anyway.

Too crazy to consider?

Thanks for all the feedback, all! ;-D
