I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday. To my Midwestern friends, I also hope the weather did not deter your plans too much. Christmas day was unique. We ended up shoveling for a couple hours and my boy started complaining that it was the worst Christmas ever. I told him it would turn around and, sure enough, Sunday evening on our way back from another family dinner, he said it was the best Christmas ever because it last 3 days, "kind of like Hanukkah".
Seriously though, I've shoveled my own driveway, or parts of it, 8 times now. Apparently it will need more attention when I get home too. And that doesn't count the 3 neighbors' driveways I help out with and the numerous cars that kept getting stuck going up our street. All I want for Christmas is a heat pack for my sore back.

Where I'm from, Christmas lasts 12 days.
Saying that, Happy Christmas. My folks say "Happy Christmas", sort of the European way of greeting someone a festive Christmas. It's funny how on this side of the water, everyone impeccably says "Merry Christmas" instead of "Happy Christmas", just like how I find it funny that one half of my family impeccably says "Happy Christmas" instead of "Merry Christmas".

Ah yes. I remember. I grew up in Alaska. Has your boy learned the neat trick of shoveling driveways for money? We'd get a big snow and I'd leave the house for just a couple hours and come home with a hundred bucks... and those were the days when $100 was actually a lot of money!
Yo, Met... thanks for the sig! GO DUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We did that last year with a couple other neighbor kids and he made some extra cash. We tried this year, but everywhere we went already had their drives shoveled, or at least attempted. We shoveled 3 neighbors' driveways, but those are ones we normally do (along with mowing) since they're older ladies. And we don't ask to be paid, just want a plate of cookies now and then.

Two words: Snow Blower. Or maybe it's one word. I don't know. Either way, you need to get one. All our neighbors chipped in ten years ago and bought one. Everyone gets to use it and it is invaluable.

And I've used our neighbor's on occasion. It's great on the small fluffy stuff. Thing is, the shovel is fine for that stuff too. But the snowblower doesn't seem to work too well on anything over 6 inches and certainly not on the hard stuff. Maybe it's just a cheap model or something. I'm sure some day I'll have to cave and get one, but I'm hoping my back can hold up until my kid's old enough to do it all on his own.
