QB Conundrum

I have Drew Brees and Alex Smith - and have obviously been playing Brees all year. Last week he almost did me in - and I am concerned that the fact that the Saints are no longer perfect might mean Brees won't play the whole game. Since Alex Smith has a good matchup - does it make sense to start him instead? I know it is the ultimate example of "never bench your studs"....
