Jamaal Charles keeper potential??

Postby LSUby50 » Thu Dec 31, 2009 7:04 pm

was wondering what you guys think about charles next year.... he was a beast down the stretch this year, and the Chiefs O has nowhere to go but up. Any chance they'll bring in another RB or will he be a workhorse next year? was this a fluke season (ala Steve Slaton '08) or is he legit? What round do you guys think he'll be getting drafted in fantasy? and about what # on the RB rankings?

thanks for any input.

I absolutely think Charles is a keeper. He is quick, breaks tackles and so far has shown the ability to be a workhore.
I can easily see him going around 4-7 in the draft.

I think 4-7 is a little high... but I do think he makes for a great keeper prospect, depending on the draft and FA. He fits the KC offense pretty well, but he has some limitations... which makes me think that KC may try to bring someone else in. Remember, he wasn't even a starter for the first part of the year, meaning he couldn't beat out Larry Johnson...

Its not his fault the coaches were dumb. He's obviously beaten out LJ when given the chance and he has been beast since becoming the starter. He has the talent to be a top 10 back in the league. I would definitely keep him.

First, like I said, he is definitely a keeper at this juncture.

Second, his coaches are not "dumb"... you don't make it to coaching at the NFL level by being ignorant. There's no doubt, in retrospect, that Charles>>>>>>>LJ in the 2009 KC offense, but that obviously wasn't the case in the beginning of the year, or Charles would have been starting from the get-go.

Also, don't forget that there was rumblings that Kolby Smith would be the starter after KC dumped LJ... that didn't happen due to injuries/ineffectiveness... but I think it's safe to say the coaching staff doesn't 100% believe in Charles as a feature workhorse RB. And it would not be a surprise to see KC try to upgrade the RB spot.

For people who say you dont get a head coaching job in the NFL by being ignorant, i would like to mention one name to you.... ROD MARINELLI. End of story. It does happen

I was lucky enough to grab Charles off the WW when all the crap went down with LJ. And boy did he come at the right time lol. In a two keeper league where one of my keepers was Westbrook, i needed someone else. Didnt want to keep Matt Schaub. I mean hes great but i would rather keep 2 RBS. MJD and Charles should be a VERY good backfield for me.

I would put Charles somewhere around Ray Rice, Steven Jackson. Probably somewhere between 5-8. No way you could put him ahead of CJ, MJD, ADP. In a ppr i still would think most would go with Rice and Jackson over him as well.

you guys are all pretty high on him. He definitely performed when given the chance. Just a mystery why it took him so long to get a chance. LJ hasnt been effective in years. So you guys are thinking 1st or 2nd round for him? if he's a top 10 RB, thats where he'll go. Definitely worth keeping if thats true and they dont add another RB. You cant say he was a product of the system, bc no other RB had success in KC, and the Offense was stagnant all year. I think they will improve.

thanks for the input.

LJ has not been effective in a while but they were also paying him out the ass, and he was awesome not too long before. Some guys just are not that great in practice. Games and practice are two different things. I mean, ask A Iverson, he will tell you. Charles has speed and that can not be taught or coached. He used to be a sprinter. Its not like he played 2 games here guys. He played the last nine of the season.

Keep in mind, since Jamaal took over at KC, he was #2 in the NFL in rushing! Only to be beat out by, Chris Johnson. You don't get those kind of stats by being a chump! And let's remember, he did that in KC! I see KC only getting better under Todd Haley and Haley said a lot of positive things about Jamaal during his time as the starter. I see Jamaal being the starter next year and building on what he did this year. If Jamaal isn't given the starting job next year, given his performance in 09, then a dumb head coach would exist in the NFL!!

There are plenty of dumb coaches in the NFL. Kubiak insisting on sticking with Brown instead of Foster or Moats, Mangini sticking with Lewis throughout the year, until he finally broke down, instead of giving Harrison a shot; and Mora running Jones instead of Forsett that averages over 6yds per carry.
