Second, his coaches are not "dumb"... you don't make it to coaching at the NFL level by being ignorant. There's no doubt, in retrospect, that Charles>>>>>>>LJ in the 2009 KC offense, but that obviously wasn't the case in the beginning of the year, or Charles would have been starting from the get-go.
There are plenty of dumb coaches in the NFL. Kubiak insisting on sticking with Brown instead of Foster or Moats, Mangini sticking with Lewis throughout the year, until he finally broke down, instead of giving Harrison a shot; and Mora running Jones instead of Forsett that averages over 6yds per carry.
You are contradicting yourself! You mentioned that you don't make it coaching at the NFL level by being ignorant. You then went on to call Kubiak, Mangini and Mora dumb coaches! I never said Haley was dumb. I said Haley would be dumb if he didn't give Charles a fair shot at a starting position next season given his performance in 09. As for Haley starting LJ over Charles to begin the season, that was more about money and politics. Every analyst I heard comment on the comparison of LJ/Charles, not to mention my own eyes, saw that Charles was clearly the better back in KC and better suited Haley's offense. However, LJ had a rather large contract and a history of being a good back in KC. Haley, being a smart coach, had to give LJ every possible opportunity to prove himself before benching or getting rid of him. I see Charles as a definite keeper, depending on the fantasy league. Haley expressed over and over his satisfaction with Charles and I see no reason that Charles will not be the lead back in KC for 2010.

he was actually quoting and responding to Indibuck earlier in the thread I believe
and I agree Charles is a definite keeper though I would be surprised if KC didn't bring in someone else to be a complimentary/change-of-pace back
"Again, we finished among the league leaders in offense this past year" - Jason Garrett 2/13/13 SMFH
I think Charles has the capability of being a stud fantasy RB and I have him behind only CJ, ADP, MJD, and Rice at this juncture (and perhaps Turner). I also thought this prior to this year, as I drafted him in the 7th round of my initial dynasty league
yes, that was nice. too bad he saved it for week 17. Hopefully we'll see more of that next season. If nothing else it should convince KC management that he can handle the load next year. They've got enough other holes to fill without drafting/adding more RBs.
#5 seems high in my opinion too. Id much rather a more proven guy anywhere in the 1st round...But i do think he's worth being a keeper and starting fantasy Rb next year.
Dont forget about guys like Steve Slaton, willie Parker, even Pierre Thomas who looked like surefire top RBs but didnt really produce as expected after their breakout seasons.
Yeah top five is a bit high but top ten id say for sure. No lower than 8 really for me but hey who am I? Will they bring in other guys to compete for the job? Sure, I mean its the NFL, hes not going to be the only RB on the team. Id also say that hes either going to have to TOTALLY fall off the map, or someone is going to have to do something out of this world to get the job from him at this point. You cant argue with the last ten games of the season. You just cant. Could he be the next FWP or PT of course he could. But he has a better shot at NOT being that IMO.
Guess we get to find out next year

See my previous post I made a few weeks ago in this thread.....
I'd draft Charles before Turner and probably even SJax(he is getting worn down on being an everydown back on a really crappy team without a passing game).
I was lucky to make the mistake of drafting LJ on alot of my teams and then taking Charles very late as his handcuff. Kept Charles even when i cut LJ. Worked out welll and won me a few championships when Slaton and Smith got hurt and I had Charles to plug in.
As for Rice, I drafted him a bit higher than needed last year and he paid off, but I also took his handcuff McGahee and he isn't too old to split touches, and vulture TDs, with Rice next year again.
At this point, I'd rate Charles and Rice about equal for 2010.
2011 FFB Totals Terrible at everything, and a liar.
I agree with that. Rice is probably a good comparison. Both had breakout years and looking to expand on it in 2010. Rice is in a much better offense, but mcgahee could be even more of a TD vulture next year. I think KC will improve the Oline through the draft, but that might be more than a 1 year fix.
deangelo williams broke out in 2008, and was still pretty solid in 2009. so there are just as many arguements for Charles as against.
