We keep 2 players from the year before, but they are kept in the same round they were drafted in last year. Ive had pretty good success by keeping later round keepers and using my early draft picks. Not sure if i can go that route this year because i traded alot and ended up with alot of early round keepers. Which 2 would you keep, and which would you try to trade before the draft?
Peyton Manning (2nd round) APeterson (1st round) Jamaal Charles (8th) RMoss (1st) Andre Johnson (1st) Chris Wells (4th)
I can keep 2 1st rounders as a 1st and 2nd.
im thinking of offering Apeterson for a 2nd round pick. this would free up my first round pick and give me an additional 2nd to keep peyton in round 2, Charles in round 8, draft a second top Rb in round 1 and a top WR in round 2. This would give me 4 starters in the 1st 2 rounds. Is there a better strategy that im missing? keeping AP and AJ or Peyton would use up my top 2 picks and then id be top-heavy but filling my roster with rounds 3-15 isnt quite as good of value. (only 2 starters after 2 rounds).
edit:players can only be kept 1 time, 10 team league. top players available in draft=Chris johnson, jones drew, brees, fitzgerald , calvin, SJax, Gore, Wayne, and whatever players i dont keep. i will probably pick 9th or 10th, and early in the 2nd, late 3rd, etc.
Gotta keep AP. You get a top-3 RB, regardless of format, for the price of a 1.8-1.10. That's great value.
Charles for an 8th is a steal. I project him as a late-first round pick in 2010 at this juncture (prior to FA and the NFL draft).
My 2nd choice would be AP and AJ for a 1 and 2. AJ is a late-first round pick at this point, so there is value there.
Your trade offer scenario -- why wouldn't you get a first round pick for AP if you are going to trade him? Why settle for a second rounder? If I'm picking 1.5-1.10 and my keeper is not a first rounder, I'm jumping at the chance to get AP.
Also, I would not keep Manning in lieu of a 2nd pick -- and I am a Colts guy. I just don't think you are maximizing value there.
I would have to trade AP for a 2nd because our rules are you have to have a pick to keep a player in that round. (if i trade AP, the other team will need to have his 1st round pick to keep him). I was thinking maybe a 2nd round pick + we swap places in the1st round. that way maybe i could move up to #3 or #4 overall and draft a Jones Drew and get an additional 2nd. i think it'd be worth it if i could still get a top Rb and another 2nd round pick.
Good point about AJ in the 2nd instead of Peyton. still not sure though. Our league is 1 pt for 50 yards passing, 6 pt TDs, which doesnt seem to favor QBs anymore than any other league. but Peyon is so consistant that his owner has been a superbowl lock recently. might be a good selling point if i trade him.
Probably will keep Charles after hearing opinions about him on the other thread.
I get your point about keeping AP and AJ based on best talent. But my thinking is that would give me 2 very good players in rounds 1 and 2, but no advantage besides that. But-If i could keep Charles, and maybe Peyton in round 2 (with the additional pick from the AP trade) and keep my #1 (which i could maybe trade up to about #3 overall), then my team would be stacked: Peyton, #3 pick for a RB, Charles for RB2, early round 2 WR (maybe a fitzgerald, wayne, or moss would to fall there), and id have rounds 3-15 to find that 2nd and 3rd WR and backups. i think that would give me a better chance to be loaded at every position.
