One Hundred Push Ups

Postby jake_twothousandfive » Fri Jan 15, 2010 2:04 pm

I'm in decent shape. I've been an off-and-on runner (with injuries being the main cause of my breaks) since I was 12. So I've always pretty much always been in good shape in terms of cardio but I don't have a lot of strength training to go with it.

As such, I've been looking for a nice and easy way to get started. I think I found it: One Hundred Push ups. It's a simple 6 week program (3 days a week...Mon, Wed, and Fri) that gradually builds you up to perform 100 push ups in a single set.

My max was 22 when I started.

Here's how I've been doing (started last Wednesday). It's still pretty early but I think I'm seeing good progress.

So far for me it has been a challenge, but a manageable one with the way the program is broken down. If anyone else cares to join in, maybe we could start a Google Doc and track our progress.

I'll probably give this a shot; I need to work on my upper body.

yeah I'm thinking about trying it too. I'll probably be able to ace the initial test since my belly has gotten big enough that I don't have far to go for it to hit the floor :,-(

I'm gonna give this a go as well. I'm already in decent shape, for the last 4 terms I've been taking a circuit training class at school. The problem is it's only two days a week, and with the crappy weather outside I find it hard to get motivated to exercise on the off days. If I start doing this Mon, Wed, and Fri, with my circuit training class that's Tue and Thur, I'll be a badass by summer......well an ass nonetheless. :-B

I'm in. Did 25 on the test. Rolled into week 2 and did my sets. I changed the rest time.

former: rest 90 seconds between each SET (longer if required)

Current: Rest for as long as it takes to drink a beer.

Did the initial tests. Resulted in a rank 3 on pushups and an 'average' on situps (there's a 200 situps scheme too) and good/very good on squats. I could skip the first weeks but I think I'm gunna do them on the harder settings to build up instead of skipping ahead.

The situps one is the one I need. My beer belly isn't bad but I don't want to start when it gets bad. Doomsday comes when you can no longer look straight down at your "you know what" because the belly hinders you from doing so.
