Texas Stadium to be Destroyed - Good Riddance!

Postby joejlitz » Sun Apr 11, 2010 6:24 am

IRVING, Texas -- The old stadium for "America's Team" is about to become a pile of dust and rubble.

With the push of a button at 8 a.m. ET Sunday, more than a ton of dynamite will blow Texas Stadium into pieces.

In about one minute, down will go the building that was home to the Dallas Cowboys during all five of their Super Bowl championships and was the birthplace of those famous cheerleaders. It also hosted events ranging from Billy Graham-led worship services to Von Erich brothers wrestling extravaganzas...

Well, I'm not hating so much as I'm just trying to stir the pot.

But given I'm an Eagles fan, hatin' on the Cowboys just comes naturally. ;-D

All that is missing is the mushroom cloud. :-°
One can only hope that Emmit Smith's commercial and announcing career was left inside the stadium with the lid down.

Not that I like the Cowboys or anything(I don't). I'm always a little sad when a stadium comes tumbling down

I live 5 mins away from the old stadium, funny how I used to drive past it literally everyday going to work or for something else, it was really open so it was easy to see the stadium everytime you rolled past the highway.

After it blew up it was crazy to see all the rubble on the ground, alot of people drove up, parked their trucks on the side of the highway and just walked around the area, I took some videos of it on my phone, seems kinda weird now. Oh well, been to the new stadium once, very nice and should be up for awhile. Too bad all the memories and SB's go down with the old stadium though.

Totally agree, it's like losing a piece of history, same with basketball gyms/arenas. And maybe even more saddening for college venues. Oregon will be leaving Mac Court, the second oldest college basketball arena still in use, for their new digs Matthew Knight Arena in 2011. And while the new arena will no doubt be spectacular, there's no way it will match charm of Mac Court. I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think there are any plans to dismantle Mac Court...yet. It is an old building sitting on prime real estate, I imagine it's only a matter of time. That will be a very sad day in Eugene.
