Like I mentioned earlier, I think the biggest reason for the Lions doing this was to get value out of a guy in his last year of contract. They obviously weren't high on him anymore, maybe he wasn't high on the Lions anymore, I dunno, but it's better to get value now than having to either cut or resign him to a big contract next year.
