I think I'd be too nervous about who might be after that money. With that said, I honestly don't think I'd want to deal with the suspicion if I turned it in. I would probably just leave it where it was and move on with my life.

What kind of suspicion?
It's not everyday that someone walks up with that kind of money and gives it to the cops...it could easily be seen as someone covering their tracks for being involved in something they shouldn't be involved with.

While possible, that would be an extremely (as in, very far-fetched) unlikely scenario.

That's one of literally millions of explanations, and the least likely, but it's the one that gets trotted out whenever this conversation crops up as a way to justify keeping the cash.
I don't know if its the least likely. Honestly, what legit reason is there to have 5 million dollars in cash in a bag?? In a world of electronic banking and all that technology, there really isn't much reason. Plus, you have to think that whoever could "misplace" 5 million probably wouldn't miss it. I'd keep it
