Keeper league - Need a RB - PPR league

Postby Baseballnovice » Mon Apr 26, 2010 7:31 am

League format: 1 pt per 10 rush and rec, 1 ppr.
Keeper format: 1 RB, 2 WR, 1 QB or TE
Last year I put all my eggs in the basket of Steve Slaton - 'nuff said

So I am looking at teams who are set with RB #1 and also have #2's who can catch the ball.

Here are my options, I would be offering player for picks here.

Marion Barber or Turner - not sure who this guy is going to keep
LeSean McCoy
Matt Forte
Cedric Benson
Johnathan Stewart
Knowshon Moreno
Rashard Mendenhall
Ryan Grant

Turner, Benson and Mendenhall huh?

in a 1 ppr league? interesting.

I will tell you I am looking at McCoy as a guy to target but wanted to get the opinion of others.

I agree weith you completely. McCoy is the guy to target here. He's young, and he has only Leonard Weaver to beat out for carries. Should be great for a PPR league.

You could also consider Matt Forte as a buy-low candidate and roll the dice (although after Slaton last year you might be gun-shy). Forte had a nagging leg injury last year and even though Chester Taylor is with the Bears now, Taylor didn't really cut into AP's value in Minny, did he? With a Mike Martz offnse Forte will be a lock for 60-70 receptions if he's healthy. The problem will be goal-line carries, where Taylor could vulture the red-zone work from Forte.

Moreno's a decent option with #1 RB potential, but Denver might be rebuilding in 2010. I like Ryan Grant as well, but he's not a pure #1, more of a 1b...still he'll get you 1,400 total yards, 8 TD and 40 receptions,.,.as for the other guys none are solid PPR guys so I'd explore the four guys listed abocve beI'd stay away from Marion Barber - that Dallas RBBC is a headache, and I think Jerry wants to hand the job to Felix Jones...
I have the doomsday device!

You said in your original post that you put "all your eggs" into Steve Slaton... so I am assuming you need a RB1. It's my belief that once you get past the elite RBs (top-5), you need to have a solid, relatively safe guy that you can count on to plug into your lineup and forget about until bye week. Without that guy, it's tough to compete for a title.

Going into a season with McCoy as my #1 RB is a scary proposition, especially with no strong RB2 compliment.

I am not drinking the McCoy kool-aid just yet. He has a lot of upside, especially with a new starting QB -- I understand this. But he has question marks too. How many carries does Charles Scott get? Is Weaver likely to again take away TD carries again? Also, keep in mind -- the Eagles pass the ball more than anyone, so there is a low ceiling on the total number of carries to go around.

I'll take any of the guys in my first grouping over McCoy as my #1 RB in virtually all scoring formats.

If you were shopping for a 2nd RB, I have no issue with McCoy there. I am willing to take on more risk for the sake of upside as I add to my roster.... but I am risk-averse at that 1st RB spot.
