Need some advice on 2 draft picks..

Postby cincypalmer » Mon Apr 26, 2010 9:41 pm

So we are in the final round (3) in are yearly draft and i have 3 of the last 6 picks that are left. I am currently thinking about taking Shiancoe with one of them but would also like to take a gamble on Charlie Whitehurst, Jerome Harrison and Jimmy Graham. All my details and roster are below. What do you think i should do? All other TE's such as Grisham and grokowski are gone. I am probably safe with Gonzo, Danials and Witten for this year. Could use another back, just dont know if Jerome Harrison is worth taking a pick and i could use another QB and Whitehurst could be worth a gamble with this late pick.

My league consists of 8 teams. We keep all players every year. Team rosters cannot exceed 28 players excluding defense. Every year we have a 3 round entry draft with the bottom 4 teams being in a lottery for the 1st overall pick.We start 2 qbs, 3rbs, 3 wrs, 2tes and 1 d. Basic point system..1 point 25 yards qb..1 point 10 yards rb/wr/te rush or recieving. 6 points for all tds run/throw/catch...minus 2 for int/fum.. At the end of the year each team draws a player from a hat and that player becomes a free agent and is put into a silent auction. My team consists of the following:
manning-romo-shaubb-roddy white-edwards-antonio bryant-santana moss-marshall-jennings-dez bryant-demetruis thomas-peterson-thomas jones-turner-stewart-chester taylor-benson-greene-micheal bush-dexter Mccluster-danials-keller-witten
baltimore-chicago-kaeding-nugent

The league is entering its 8th year, i won it in 2008 and 2009.

Yes Harrison should be on someone's roster... I don't expect huge production from him in 2010, but he has value and is worth a pick.

As far as Whitehurst -- new starter for a new coaching regime. Petey has his hand-selected guy at QB to compete with the incumbent; I think it makes Whitehurst a guy you put on your roster in a start 2 QB league.

With only 8 teams :-?

For an 8 team league, where you start 3 RBs, and you keep your roster...I think you need as much RB depth as possible - if Peterson ever comes out of that hat you are in big trouble

He has 3 of the last 6 picks left.... I rank his options:
Harrison
Shiancoe
Whitehurst

Graham

He has three very good QBs... and Whitehurst has enough upside to roster as a QB4 if he wins the job.

Assuming he gets Shiancoe as his 4th TE... would you suggest he pick Graham as a 5th TE or Whitehurst as a 4th QB?

I agree with your point about maintaining RB depth, even in an 8-team league... but I disagree with your last point: "if Peterson ever comes out of that hat you are in big trouble"

AP
Benson
Greene
Turner
Stewart
are all strong candidates to start his 3 RB spots based on matchups. Plus he has some depth in Thomas Jones, Chester Taylor, and the acquisition of Harrison, to go along with some low-risk, high-reward upside guys in Bush and McCluster.

Harrison is far and away the first pick. Beyond that, who else is left as I don't think you need a 4th TE. Whitehurst is interesting but a complete wildcard. Can you list say the top 10 guys you think are available?
