Keeper Trade

Postby calicocal » Mon May 03, 2010 8:45 pm

I am in a 14 team ppr keeper league. We can keep 3 people from year to year but their value moves up two slots every year they are kept. We start 1 QB, 1 RB, 2 WR, and 2 RB/WR. Right now I am keeping:
Andre Johnson for a 1st round
Ryan Grant for a 2nd round
Shonn Greene for a 7th round

I just had someone offer me calvin Johnson and cedric Benson for andre johnson. This would mean I would keep:

Calvin Johnson for a first
Shonn Greene for a seventh
Cedric Benson for an eighth

Some bigger names out there would be Brandon Marshall, Roddy White, steve smith (car), grant, moreno, jonathan stewart

Should I pull the trigger?

I would be very tempted in your position to accept your trade. I'm in a similar position, should I trade Andre Johnson for Calvin Johnson and C.J. Spiller?

I like your original lineup better but the 2nd round keeper vs an 8th round keeper does mean something. Very hard question to answer accurately. Will everyone be keeping a 1st rounder essentially making the 2nd round a 1st? Where do you draft in the 2nd round?

Can you make the deal and get Grant back on your roster or Stewart?

I actually think I would do it based on the limited information I have. I believe in Megatron long-term, while you are giving up some value there... RGrant is nice, but to go six rounds later and pick up a risky, yet more than comparable CBenson especially when still having a young and promising SGreene in the RB core. With that 2nd pick you now have you can get a young RB, stud WR, stud QB or someone else that slipped through someone's keepers. I wouldn't blame you for keeping AJohnson, but if I understood the situation correctly I would keep CJohnson, CBenson, and SGreene and have a 2-6 round pick at my disposal, which should solidify all of your starters...

Tough to answer without a lot of information. Look around and find out who people are keeping. What kind of value would be there in the second round...is it better than keeping Grant at that pick or maybe if you think you can keep Benson and still draft Grant in the 2nd. In a 14 team league(keeping 3) there are going to be roughly 20 RBs being kept(if not more), it depends on the number and value of guys that can't be kept (drafted in rounds 1 or 2 previously).

If there are a number of RBs that can't be kept and guys that aren't being kept because of team value (like Grant), then I think you make the move for Benson.

Without any added information, I say you pull this trigger. The Lions offense is improving. Their O-Line has gotten better, which will give Stafford more time to get CJ the ball down the field. Now that you have the second, you might still be able to pick Grant back up, or a comparable back or receiver. I say this looks like a great trade for you in my opinion.
