He looked good last year and with a healthy Calvin Johnson, a more stable O-Line, and the additions of Scheffler, Best and Burleson do you consider Stafford a potential Top 10 QB for 2010?
Top 10 might be pushing it just a bit but I think he'll be drafted as as high upside type backup in most fantasy drafts...I don't see too many people being bold enough to take him as their actual starter which would mean he'd have to be top 10 to be worth it, but he's got the weapons and big arm to do it. Something to keep in mind, however, is that the 2nd year as the starter for a QB tends to be a little bit more rough because defenses are more prepared for you and do more things to slow you down...Matt Ryan from last year is a good example of that. So I would be a bit hesitant on guys like Stafford, Sanchez, and even Kolb who got some starts last season on putting up great fantasy numbers.

Exactly.
You should be weary of 2nd year QB's, I remember wanting to take Matt Ryan last year pretty early but didn't get a chance to, and he was a disappointment for the most part. A sophmore slump isn't out of the question and is quite the norm. Then again I really like Stafford's situation, talent, everything involving him.
He's going to be one of the best QB's in the league I feel and they have done a great job of providing him with weapons to make him even better, but Calvin and Best have got to stay healthy. If I can get him at a decent point as a 2nd QB with upside I'd love it. Next year I actually wouldn't mind getting a QB carrosoul(sp?) involving guys like Kolb, Stafford, & Alex Smith and play matchups all season.

He has gotten a year of experience under his belt and he really does have a lot of talent. I think that if he can stay healthy he can have an OK year.. Probably around top 15 or so.. But I do think there will be a few games where he absolutely explodes like in the game against Cleveland!
In what can probably be dismissed as being too close to the flame, I doubt that I will reach for Stafford. I cannot get the image out of my head of so many passes thrown far off target. Raises concerns over his ability to achieve enough consistancy to be counted on for FFB.
Of course, a very good preseason campaign can change my opinion.
I think, therefore I am. I think fantasy, therefore I am unreal?

I wouldn't expect him to be terribly accurate with no legit ground game, no offensive line, one decent WR who was doubled and triple teamed, and a rookie QB. It's not really out of the realm of possibility that a rookie QB has some passes off target especially considering the situation. I wouldn't expect anything but.
All you can realistically look for out of a QB in his situation is a guy to flash some serious long term potential and he did just that. You want to see some glimpses of a guy who could grow into a very dominant QB, he has the arm strength to do it, toughness, and what he did considering the weapons and on a team fresh off of 0-16 I would say he did very well for himself.

He showed some promise, that is all I would say. It doesn't matter if you don't have a run game (helped contribute to passing stats?) or poor recievers, you still have to throw the ball to who is open. Too many times his passes missed their mark by a long shot. That worries me.

Stafford has always had phenomenal talent. I would say as far as arm strength goes, Stafford is probably top 3 in the league. His biggest issue is that he tries to hard to make things happen that are not there. Going back to his college days, he has always had at least 2-3 head scratching throws a game that resulted in picks. I know his accuracy can be shaky at times which contributes to this, but it is mostly just poor decision making. I guess you could call it Jay Cutler syndrome, although Stafford doesn't have near the attitude that Cutler has.
As everyone else has already said, you can draft Stafford as a very high upside backup. He has stretches of play where he can look like the next Peyton Manning. I don't think he will ever put it together like Manning, but I think he could turn into a top 5 fantasy QB in the next couple of years. Stafford's own talent and the talent at the skill positions around him are getting there.

So what exactly would a sophomore slump be, coming off a season with a 53% completion percentage and a 13/20 TD/int ratio?
I watched a lot of Detroit games last year, and I saw nothing in Stafford to differentiate him from Kyle Boller, or the guy I thought he was when he was drafted. That is, big arm, no touch, poor accuracy and decision making.
Does anyone ever see this guy putting up numbers as good as Kurt Warner did last year? I sure don't. And now that you've answered that, consider that Kurt Warner was only QB14 last year and ask yourself if you're ever going to be using Stafford as anything more than a bye week fill-in.
