Darrelle Revis

Postby bungle613 » Sun May 16, 2010 10:17 am

Darrelle Revis is seeking an average annual salary that exceeds $20 million per year, according to Michael Lombardi of the National Football Post.
In other words, Revis wants to be one of the highest paid players in NFL history, quarterbacks included. The Raiders signed Nnamdi Asomugha to a record three-year, $45.3 million deal last offseason and Revis wants to blow that out of the water. As Lombardi says, "this will not be an easy contract to get done, especially anytime soon."

Out of the water is an understatement. That is QB money and $5 mil more than the next highest DB. You are good Mr. Revis but good luck with that contract dude.

Once a agent starts whispering in their clients ear egos start to inflate. Not that he isn't a great DB but I feel giving him that money won't make him a better DB but make him worse.

Guys work hard until they get their money. You see it in every sport. The Yankees grab Bobby Abreau after his best year ever and he never matches it. Not even close. Now my Angels get him on the cheap where he carries value. Hayensworth is another example. He was happy stealing the millions but things have changed because he is in a 3-4 D. What a crock.

I understand why he is doing it though. The team can cut you in a minute so you might as well get it while you can.

Over 3 months from when this was first reported and still no agreement:

The New York Post's Bart Hubbuch says that reports of a meeting between Revis and the Jets Tuesday night are false.

This backs up what ESPN's Chris Mortensen and John Clayton have both reported and contradicts the reports from AOL Fanhouse's Dan Graziano and the Dallas Morning News' Tim Cowlishaw. While a deal still is certainly possible, it sounds like it won't be struck Tuesday

This holdout is affecting my ability to gain 100% satisfaction from watching Hard Knocks. :-t

According to Yahoo's Jason Cole, Darrelle Revis relationship with the Jets is "ticking toward an end."

"A divorce, really," insists Cole. "That might sound like hysteria to some but it's reality." Revis is apparently adamant that he won't show up "ever again" if the Jets don't substantially increase their long-term contract offer soon. The Revis camp obviously has Cole convinced, but let's keep in mind that this is the height of saber rattling season with the season opener on the horizon.

Darrelle Revis (hamstring, probable) declared himself ready for Monday Night Football after practicing fully on Friday.

Revis could "play right now" if needed, and is "preparing to battle" Randy Moss in Week 5, after Moss burned him for a touchdown in their early-season meeting. The Jets left the decision to play up to Revis, and he's clearly planning on it. Monday night's game has so many storylines going on that Revis-Moss might get buried. But it's the most important for our purposes.
