It looks like Jahvid Best and Dez Bryant will be available to pick from at my 1.03 pick.
My RB's are LeSean McCoy, Rashard Mendenhall, LenDale White, Bernard Scott
My WR's are Marques Colston, Devin Aromashodu, Donald Driver, Austin Collie, Chaz Schilens, James Jones.
Scoring is standard 1PPR scoring
Start 2 RB's and 2 WR's
I have 2 trains of thought.
1. Draft Best and have a solid running back corp for years to come. Every year there is some WR that comes from nowhere(ie Miles Austin and Sidney Rice in 2009). I also have 2 later first round draft picks in the upcoming 2011 and 2012 drafts which would be conducive to drafting wide receivers. I could draft receivers for a while and watch the waiver wire until I hit.
2. Draft Dez Bryant. I already have 2 solid prospects at RB and would only need some fill in for one week while White and Mendenhall share the same bye. This would give a shot with Aromashodu and Bryant to hopefully hit with a solid WR to go with Colston.
I have Best as my 2nd rated rookie available (after Matthews).
I take the RB that looks to be a workhorse-type back in an offense that is improving. I think DET may have a very very good offense in 2011... if not sooner.
Looking at your roster, I think it makes even more sense to take Best... you desperately need a 3rd RB for your rotation, especially since Mendy/McCoy are not considered elite.
PPR I wouldn't pass on Dez. If he hits you could have 12 years of domination. Best will give you a shorter window, with more risk, and lower upside. You need a RB more, and it will be harder to get one, but your team is young. Roll the dice on shallow depth this year, and if you still need a RB next year, draft one then. Use your later round picks on RB gambles like Dwyer (handcuff Mendenhall), Starks, etc. Try to sell Collie for Forsett or Leon Washington. Try to move White + Schilens or Jones for a short term answer at RB like Ronnie Brown or Addai.
Don't pass on Bryant here in a full ppr league. He's very talented and could possibly be the most dominant WR on the team by seasons end as long as his whorish mother doesn't get in the way
I'd go with Best; Bryant is a superior talent, but Best is talented enough to make RB superiority make the difference. Among McCoy, Mendenhall and Best, you should wind up with a good enough set of starting running backs at the very least. Colston works as your No. 1 receiver, and someone should emerge from your group of other wide receivers. If you started 3 wide receivers, I'd be closer to saying Bryant, but the PPR is pretty much canceled out by the fact that you only have to start two.
Kudos to Leber for the amazing sig and to Metroid for the userbar and making them both fit 2008 and 2009 Defunct Dynasty League Champion
Thanks everyone for your responses. I will try to respond to questions you all post in the future.
I was leaning towards Jahvid Best from the beginning. After reading through all the comments, even though Bryant would be very tempting, I think I will stick with Best as my selection.
Now watch the first 2 guys in the draft will mix it up on me and change everything on Saturday. I think if Best and Mathews are both gone I will draft Bryant.
