Last night's embarrassing loss notwithstanding, Friday night's cup game in Philly was
AWESOME!My dad and I showed up at 6:00 and joined the block party they had going on. They had a huge ice sculpture of the Flyers logo, a live band, hot Captain Morgan and Bud Lite chicks dancing for the crowd, beer, food, and lots of other goings-on.
We got into the arena and they gave us our free Flyers shirt, obligatory towel, and a sign. As we came in, there was a small line. Checking it out, I saw
Bernie Parent, Gary Dornhoffer, and Bob "Machine Gun" Kelly all standing there for pictures and autographs. That was awesome. I stood in line and got pics and they all autographed my hat.
Next, we go up to the suite area and it was certainly nice. Full cash bar inside. We ate roast pork sandwiches with sharp provolone. Our seats were right on the Blue Line where the Blackhawks shot twice.
Up next was an incredibly emotional moment. Lauren Hart, longtime national anthem singer for the Flyers, sung God Bless America with a deceased Kate Smith video mixed in. For those of you that don't know, Kate Smith is a Philly Flyers legend(see below). My dad and I got goosebumps and I definitely shed a few tears.
Anyway, the Flyers went out and kicked ass for 2 and a half periods. CHI made it close at the end, but it was too late. Leaving the stadium, people were chanting "Let's Go Flyers" and blowing fog horns and making all kinds of noise. I got pics on my home computer and will upload them tonight if I get a chance.

Kate Smith: The legend as I understand it: Back in the 70s, when the U.S. was displeased with the Vietnam war, the Flyers owner noticed that fans didn't stop and render honors during the National Anthem. He heard a 1930s version of Kate Smith singing God Bless America and decided to play that instead of the National Anthem. Everyone responded positively to it and the Flyers went out and won a huge game. After that, they played GBA everytime they needed a big win. Eventually, they brought her to the Spectrum to sing live. They Flyers record when she sings is excellent.
