Trade Moreno or McCoy to pick Mathews? WHIR

Postby THEOT » Sun Jun 13, 2010 9:38 am

Hey guys. I'm in a 12 team PPR dynasty, won the league this past season. I have been offered the #5 and #9 picks for either Moreno or McCoy. I already have the #7, I talked to the guy that has the #1 and he would trade it to me for the #5, 7 & 9. I think with my roster if I had the #1 and gave up Moreno or McCoy I'd want to pick up Mathews. However, that kind of seems redundant to me to give up one young stud RB for another. The flip side is I could trade one of them and keep the picks too. Or I could do nothing because to be honest, I don't need to make this deal. My other thought right now is to just keep my #7 and try to trade up and grab a guy like Tate to stash away and to be honest this is how I am leaning. Below is my roster, thanks for the help, WHIR

QB - Romo, Rivers
RB - MJD, Rice, Moreno, McCoy
WR - AJ, Wayne, White, Rice, Murphy, Knox
TE - Davis, Keller, Shiancoe

Stay put, it is a lateral move for you so essentially useless. Moreno, Matthews and McCoy are all in the completely unproven category right now. None of them have shown they can be great NFL running backs. I actually have them all in the same category, they will be ok, not great.

Keep 7 and take Hardesty or Thomas.

Thanks, that's what I was feeling. There is a another scenario too. I could trade one of McCoy or Moreno and Romo possibly for Rodgers and a 1st round pick to this guy as well.

First of all, you are the Yankees of your league. Your team is silly-strong. That being said, you should always be looking on how to improve your team.

Second -- I am confused. You said your original offer was to trade away your 1.5, 1.7, and 1.9 for the 1.1. Why do you need to include Moreno or McCoy?

With that roster, I would trade those picks for the 1.1 and select Matthews. Then I would look to trade Moreno and McCoy for another stud RB.... so you would have MJD, Rice, stud RB #3, and Matthews.

As for your other trade regarding Rodgers... yes he is a consensus top-2 QB, but I love Romo and Rivers this year, and I see them both as potential top-5 QBs... I would stay put and ride the hot QB hand.

Thanks. Yeah I really am, its just kinda crazy how deals have fallen into my lap to put this team together.

To clarify, right now I have Moreno, McCoy and the 1.7. I have an offer on the table to trade McCoy or Moreno for the 1.5 & 1.9. So if I did that deal I would then have the 1.5, 1.7 & 1.9.

As for the Rodgers deal, part of the motivation there is this is a salary cap dynasty league and Rodgers has a crazy low salary ($940k) compared to Romo's $2.8 mil salary. So not only is Rodgers younger and a great top 2-3 option but I'd be saving a ton of cap space over the next few years. So that's where that thought is coming from.

Ahhhh okay. I would not trade McCoy or Moreno for the 1.5 + 1.9, which means you can't do the deal for the 1.1.

As for the other trade... what is that first round pick that you would receive with Rodgers? If it's a high enough pick maybe you should pull the trigger in light of the salary cap issues.

Well I'd try to get the 1.5, and he might do it. I'm thinking I'd rather keep McCoy and trade Moreno. So I'd offer Romo & Moreno for Rodgers and the 1.5.

This is a trade that helps both teams.

The other team probably gets a little more out of it talent-wise. But your incredible depth can easily absorb that, especially when you consider what you get out of it:

You get the #1QB and a decent rookie pick to replenish your depth at RB... and at a significant cap savings. Sounds like a winner to me. ;-D

Great, thanks for all your help. My gut was telling me this was a good move but sometimes in a deal like this I like a gut check. It would help him, his RBs right now are Greene and Portis, so he's hurting.

i have not read the other posts.

But i will say this, with mike bell in philly now, and with vicks possibility of stealing TD runs. I would just trade mccoy for those picks in a heart beat. I wouldnt however trade your picks for the 1st to take mattews. thats a good amount of picks you will be getting, and you can grab another rookie RB like tate, or even Dez. either way you are sure to be taking some good rookies off the board with 3 picks.
