ROOKIE DRAFT & I'm on the clock!!!

Postby z raptor » Tue Jun 15, 2010 7:40 am

This is the 1.03 pick. The league is a 12-team dynasty league w/ppr & fairly standard scoring. Here's my current team:

UFL Dynasty League: (9-4-0 in 2009)
QB: A.Rodgers, M.Leinhart, M.Flynn, M.Moore
RB: R.Rice, R.Grant, P.Thomas, M.Bush,
A.Foster, L.Hilliard, B.Scott
WR: M.Austin, M.Colston, B.Marshall, C.Schilens,
Jam.Jones, B.Tate
TE: V.Davis, B.Celek, J.Finley, D.Keller
PK: J.Reed, D.Buehler
DEF: Packers

My initial thoughts are: Ben Tate, Montario Hardesty, Jonathan Dwyer, or Demaryius Thomas. It needs to be said that I also have the 1.10 & 1.12 picks as well and that I did make an trade offer that is pending:

D.Keller + 1.12 pick FOR P.Garcon + 3.02 pick (26th overall)

Tate & Hardesty seem to have the edge at this point. If I pick Tate, then he & Foster can battle it out and I have a good rb in a really fine offense. Hardesty is intriguing and is getting good reviews, but it is Cleveland (though with Holgram, it is a positive on the future). I liked Dwyer in college, but can't get a read in Pittsburgh just yet. Thomas is being considered as a bpa as he could be a fantasy stud in the future. If he's there at 1.10, I'll definitely take him.....just not sure he'll last until then.

Well, what do u'all think???

As always, thanks for all your help!!!!!!!!!!!!

:-) :-) :-)

T-Rex... dont do the D.Keller and your 1.12 for Garcon & 3.2.. Your WR corp is off the hook. You dont need Garcon..

As far as your 1.3 pick, assuming 1.1 is R.Matthews, you get your choice of either Spiller or J.Best (who I like alot).. I know you dont, due to that whole "I'm a cheesehead fan and cant have another North Divsional foe on my roster thingy" lol

barring that, I like B.Tate ALOT and M.Hardesty is an interesting "sleeper" candidate..

First of all, i would pass on that deal.

You have a pretty solid team overall, I don't see any glaring needs. I would take the BPA, I would rank your options: Matthews, Spiller, Dez.

Thanks for the responses.

Based on the responses:

Matthews - already picked
Best - is a Lion (ABSOLUTELY NO WAY!!!)
Bryant - already have Austin (don't like two wr's from same nfl team on my team)
Tate - is the guy!!!
Hardesty - will consider him if still available at 1.10

AND, will squelch the deal..........

Thanks, again!!!!!

You don't see Spiller as a top 5 pick in PPR leagues Indi?

If you plan on taking Tate at 1.3, you really have to offer 1.3 to the 1.5 owner for 1.5 and 2.5. I understand taking "your guy" for a variety of reasons, but no one is thinking Tate at 1.3. You should be able to get a lot to trade out of the top 4, even if it is just to #5.

At this point, no. I will move guys up and down as we get into training camps and get more defined roles in their respective offenses.

With Tate, you have a guy who presumably only has to beat out Arian Foster (I see Slaton as the 3rd down/change of pace bacK -- his rightful spot IMHO) and plays in a great HOU offense.

Hardesty has been moving up my rookie rankings as reports come out of CLE. I think he is at worst in a time-share in CLE on a team that's going to have to run the ball.

I love Spiller the RB... but I hate his current situation. Even if Lynch moves on, he's still stuck behind Fred Jackson. I think BUF will try to be creative in ways to get him the ball, but I think his ceiling is a little lower in that offense.

I know conventional wisdom puts Spiller into the top-5, but that's the same CW that made Darren McFadden the top rookie pick a few years ago. And while I am not calling the Bills the Raiders, there are some similarities between the situations. Buyer beware on Spiller.

I don't think McFadden is a bust due to situation. Michael Bush averaged 4.8 YPC in the same situation. I think McFadden was a bust because he had skills to be a great college RB but they didn't translate to the NFL. He had the speed but not the elusiveness or power.

I think Spiller doesn't have those problems. I know some disagree. He didn't broad jump at the combine (which is the best indication of leg power and burst) but the 10'6" he did at his pro day beats all other rookie RBs. He's not a one-trick pony kicking it to the outside all the time. McFadden might have been.

I don't think Buffalo is a terrible situation. Even so, I think you have to take talent over situation in rookie drafts, especially early. Taking situation over talent causes Chris Johnson and Ray Rice to drop. It causes Jamaal Charles to not just drop but plummet. If you "love Spiller the RB" I think you have to take him top 4 regardless of other issues. Unless you love Tate and Hardesty more.
