Potential trade could affect my draft strategy. Thoughts?

I'll try not to make this too confusing....

Ok, so here's my situation. 10 team keeper league, standard scoring with a RB/WR/TE Flex. Can keep up to four. Right now I'm keeping the following players:

Frank Gore (1st rnd)
Andre Johnson (2nd)
Jonathan Stewart (7th)
Deangelo Williams (16th)

Due to trades, I will have two back2back 3rd round picks, one 4th, and no 5th. Obviously you have to be flexible, but I was thinking I would try to take 2 WR's in the 3rd (guys like Ocho, Bowe, the two Smiths), maybe grab the best RB available in the 4th (maybe someone like Jahvid Best, MB3, Cadillac).

I'm looking at the players that will be available in the 1st round and I have mad man love for Shonn Greene and Ryan Matthews. They obviously won't last unti l the 3rd round, so I was considering offering Frank Gore for Michael Turner, since Turner would be a 2nd round keeper, and since I couldn't keep 2 players in the 2nd I'd be able to keep one of them (AJ) in the 3rd.

If I did that trade I'd have my 1st round pick which considering the other keepers would be the second pick overall, so I could definately get one of Greene or Matthews. However, I'm worried that if I did this my WRs would be weak(er), as I could grab one of those above guys in round three, but a lot of WRs (i'm thinking) will go before my pick in round 4.

Do you think the chance to add a Greene or Matthews is worth the downgrade in WR talent, even though I'm already keeping 3 RBs?

And what do you think of swapping Gore for Turner? I am really high on Gore this year, I just have a feeling he's in for a monster year. Thoughts?

Im a little confused, you say you can keep 4 players...as you listed.

you offer gore for turner. how does that translate to downgrading at WR?

And i dont understand what you mean by not keeping 2 players in the second round

if you can keep 4 guys...you have those keepers no matter what.

You can always deal a solid RB for a WR. I would not hesitate to do this deal if it would ensure I could get Matthews or Greene in the first round.

The question I would have is why is Shonn Greene not on somebody's keeper list? If he is not, aren't you concerned the Greene owner will trade him before the keepers are announced? That would leave you in a precarious spot at #2 overall, hoping that the #1 overall pick doesn't end up being Ryan Matthews...I would still pick Jahvid Best or Ben Tate in that spot, but perhaps that is not worth sacrificing Frank Gore for.

Other than that, I would definately pull the trigger here and set myself up for a solid young RB.

Just remember last year WR's like Miles Austin, Sidney Rice and Mike Sims-Walker were either waiver claims or late-round fliers in many leagues. So WR talent can be found where RB talent usually is not...

If he trades Gore for Turner, he will lose a 2nd round pick as the cost for keeping Turner, rather than a first round pick for keeping Gore.

Also, he is already losing a 2nd round pick for keeping A. Johnson, so the cost on keeping Turner becomes a 3rd round pick instead.

He is thinking that by getting to keep his 1st round pick and using it on a RB (Matthews or Greene) might hurt his depth at WR, since right now instead of his 1st round pick, he would have an extra 3rd rd pick he plans to use at WR.

Clear as mud, right?

Yeah, you have it exactly right, scorpio. I know it is a little confusing. And the reason Greene is available is because he ended the year on the wavier wire. (I know, I'm kicking myself. I liked him all year, but I really thought someone had him on their roster or I definately would have picked him up)
