Magazine Sighting!

Postby Stelly » Fri Jun 18, 2010 9:59 am

I was in the grocery store last night, and saw TWO Fantasy Football Magazines on the shelf.

It was a little exciting...

(granted, they will be out of date in a couple weeks, but it's fun to be getting close to the season...)

With all the info available on the 'net, I've never ever used a magazine for any FF info.

True, but it's good to have a physical magazine. It's good reading material when you are going poo. There's nothing like the rush of that first poo coming out and reading about a sleeper you are going to destroy everyone with. :-*

I use them as *draft* info. There are a couple (such as ESPN) that I regularly see during my live drafts. What I like to do is identify what the magazine's sleepers are, what mine are and see where the difference lies so I know about when I'll need to act in order to snag their potential pick ahead of them.

For example, ESPN currently has the Jets DST listed as 100th overall on their board. In a 12 team league that means I'd need to spend a 8th round pick on them to get them. (To rich for my blood, but others might feel that is justified.)

I think you guys are missing the point. True for most of us mags have been rendered obsolete with the net, but that has little to do with the excitment of seeing FFB mags hitting the store shelfs. It's like the change of the seasons. Sure I have a calender that tells me when Spring is here, but I still get a charge out of seeing the first robin of the year. It's those serendipitous sightings that offer unsolicited proof that its coming. It is coming.

I bought NFL.com's mag. It is an exciting time. Plus, I like the mags better than reading off a computer screen. But I guess I am just old school.

This. I went to the magazine aisle the last time I visited B&N and they happened to have three mags. I was excited, as I hadn't expected any to come to shelves until the end of this month, so I bought one, the ESPN mag. ;-D

:-D

Well, I suppose instead of grabbing the top Defense I could have scooped up the very next pick: Mohamed Massaquoi. I'm sure he would have been the difference maker.
