I personally believe he did it on purpose. you don't spend 30 years in the military and don't know that those type of comments are not going to get you retired. A person with a less distinguished career would have been court marshaled and spent some time in the brig.

He is a 4 Star General with a very distinguished career in the US military. Noone knows for certain if what he said was on or off the record. In todays day and age when Paparazzis can take nude pictures of a celeb in their back yard you have to be extremely cautious in what you say because you know how cut-throat the media is. He basically said some stuff behind closed doors about our Adminstration with Rolling Stone present and Rolling Stone took his words and published them. Washington sees it and calls him in to fire him.
