SAN DIEGO (AP)—The NFL reportedly has suspended Chargers Pro Bowl wide receiver Vincent Jackson(notes) for three games for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.
The suspension was reported by ESPN, which cited a league source it did not identify.
Jackson pleaded guilty in February to his second DUI since 2006.
His agent, Neil Schwartz, declined to comment Thursday to The Associated Press. Chargers general manager A.J. Smith didn’t immediately return a call seeking comment.
NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy says the league doesn’t have a comment on the report. He says in an e-mail to the AP that the “matter remains under review.” That could indicate Jackson has appealed.
Jackson has refused to sign his tender as a restricted free agent and could sit out the first 10 games of the season. There’s a possibility a suspension could coincide with his holdout.

anybody think this will hurt his chances of being traded. also, I have heard Wash, Chi, Seattle and Miami. Where is he going to end up?
You could think of government workers like teenagers. You pay them an allowance, but do you get any work out them? They eat the food, put their feet on the furniture and complain loudly whenever they are unhappy.
I think the suspension makes him untradeable. SD has a legit shot of making a run again this year, and no way to they get a player or players that help them this year the way Jackson would. They'll call his bluff. He'll be back on the field with Rivers Week 4.
VJAX might go to Seattle. He will still miss 3 games, but not likely that he'll miss 6 unless he doesn't sign the RFA tender - which he will.
Vincent Jackson's placement on the Roster Exempt List means that he will miss three OR six regular season games, regardless of whether he's traded.
The Roster Exempt distinction travels with V-Jax if he's shipped to Seattle. Already suspended for Weeks 1-3, he'll miss the first six games if he fails to sign his restricted free agent tender prior to September 4. If a trade is to happen, he needs to sign his tender. Otherwise, an unlikely midseason trade would be his best bet if he's going to play at all this year.

Gotta be VJAX. He'll be on a new team soon and miss only 3 games due to suspension. Rice is undraftable at this point, IMO. He is going to miss AT LEAST 8 games due to injury.

Doubtful:
The San Diego Union-Tribune's Kevin Acee hints that the Vikings have made inquiries about unsigned restricted free agent Vincent Jackson.
Citing league sources, however, Acee reports that Minnesota "immediately balked" at Jackson's exorbitant contract demands. Acee reports that "no one" is willing to pay Jackson the five-year, $50 million deal he's seeking. V-Jax isn't going to the Vikings, but he's just as likely not going anywhere until he 1) Signs his one-year tender, and 2) Lowers his long-term asking price. Source: San Diego Union-Tribune
vjax is a decent keeper butt very low value for 2010 season
i have watched his value drop drop drop and i think he will play zero games for chargers in 2010 probably not traded so he will play zero games for anyone.
The Rams are not interested in trading for VJAX. Dude needs to sign, soon.
The St. Louis Rams aren't pursuing San Diego Chargers holdout wide receiver Vincent Jackson, a league source said Thursday.
The Rams had some contact with the Chargers regarding a possible trade for Jackson, but they aren't attempting to land him at this point and don't expect to acquire him, according to the source.
"There are too many moving parts," a Rams source said. "That's not something we're pursuing right now."
A deal for Jackson would be complex because the Chargers are seeking a second-round draft pick, plus another selection, in return, according to the team source. Working out a new contract with Jackson also would be tricky.
The Rams are in the market for a receiver after starter Donnie Avery tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee last week during the team's third preseason game, ending his season.
The source said he didn't expect the Chargers to trade Jackson anytime soon. He added that although the Rams hadn't been granted permission to speak with Jackson, had the team been of the mind a deal was close and it pushed for permission, St. Louis believes it would have been granted.
