EDIT:Changes made to reflect updated trade offers!
Hey everyone,
I was 2006 and 2008 Super Bowl winner with my keeper league, but my team has drastically changed since then. Those winning teams were based on Westbrook and Romo throwing TDs to T.O. None of them are on my team now. I have a good core team on paper, but what I'm lacking is an ELITE player to break out and score 25-30 pts one day and bury my opponent.
We are a really unorthodox keeper league in that we have 10 teams and we keep 5 veteran players, and we draft 5 rookies each year and keep 2 for the following year so long as we don't start them at all during the season. So basically, round 1 in our draft is like round 6 or 7 in a normal re-draft. I have the following keepers coming into the draft:
Gore Pierre Thomas LeSaun McCoy DeSean Jackson Roddy White Johny Knox Brent Celek
Like I said, good on paper, but they gave me a 5-8 record last year! Jackson lacked consistency, PT had to fight Bell, etc. The bottom line is nobody on my roster is EXPLOSIVE like a Chris Johnson type of player.
So I posted on my league board and said I want to make a big trade. Any singular player on my roster plus a 1st round pick swap (I pick 3rd) for an ELITE player. Here's what I've gotten for offers so far:
DeSean Jackson & LeSean McCoy - for - Payton Manning & Steve Smith (Jac) plus a 1st Rd pick swap ( I go from 3rd to 10th)
OR
Roddy White & McCoy for Ray Rice and his 1.6 pick
OR
(NEW OFFER) DeSean Jackson & McCoy + a 1st Rd. swap (3rd to 8th) for Chris Johnson
Opinons on these trades?
Some other food for thought, At the 3rd pick I could probably have a shot at Schaub (4 pts behind Manning), Favre ( 2 pts behind Manning although only good for this year), Kolb (I'm really high on his potential right now) or Cutler (Mike Martz made Kitna a 4,000 yd passer even). I have a feeling Schaub could go at No. 2 though.
Outside of QBs I only see No 3 RBs like Barber (with F. Jones as a thorn in his side), Forte (will he bounce back?), Fred Jackson (hello Spiller and a big ? at QB) or Jacobs being worth the pick.
Manning is still himself but the passing game in Jac is an afterthought behind DeAngelo and Stewart. Not to mention Matt Moore is an unknown too. Regardless, Smith would be a good No. 2 behind White.
Rice has youth and lots of potential. I noticed 12 games over 10 pts, and 6 games over 15 pts. That’s the kind of spark I need. I\'m getting a little more reluctant about this one now that he\'s asking for McCoy as well, but I honestly would have been looking to trade McCoy for a WR anyway. There\'s a few teams that are weak at RB and loaded at WR and I could have tried to swing McCoy for Steve Smith (Car), Percy Harvin, or Ochocinnco. But the upside is I'd have picks 3 and 6, the downside is there really isn't an exceptional WR avail. The top 3 avail are Mason (father time himself), Meechem (on PUP with a lingering toe injury), and Sims Walker. I could still walk away with Schaub/Kolb/Cutler and Mason/Meechem/Sims Walker though.
As for CJ, we all know his value! Does that trade look like to much like I'm "betting the farm" for one player? On the other hand though, if I got CJ I wouldn't have a high need for McCoy anyway as I'd have CJ, Gore, PT. I could afford to give up McCoy.

First, I think you mean Steve Smith in Carolina, unless there's a deep sleeper in Jacksonville that I haven't heard of. I'm actually pretty high on him this season. His struggles last year were largely because of Delhomme. After Moore took over in Week 13, Smith's production went way up, and he finished the season with games of 78, 83, 157, and 60 yards; with TD in each of the last three. I expect that to carry over into this season.
Not as high on Jackson - his production is based on huge plays, and I don't trust both his consistency, or his ability to repeat that feat (8 TD of 50+ yards) this year. So I think he should be involved in whatever deal you make.
Both trades are good, but I have to say I'd go with Jackson for Rice.
- You don't have to drop back as many spots. - Putting Rice with Gore, that 's two potential top 5 RBs, and a great flex play (if you have one) with Thomas - if not, he'll be solid depth and maybe trade bait if you want to upgrade somewhere else later. - There's always going to be a mid-round or WW pickup that can put up WR2 numbers with White - For QB you can get Cutler or Favre with the 6th pick. Maybe pick up a guy going late with upside like Eli or Ben for insurance later on.
Manning/Smith is really tempting, and I almost leaned that way - but Rice is just too good of a talent to pass up, especially in a keeper league. Take it and run.
I'd go Jackson for RR and pick swap if you wanted to do either. The probelm though is that you would have McCoy, Rice, Thomas, and Gore...unless you can somehow start 4 rb it makes me leary to give up a WR1. Is there anyway of doing like Thomas plus a pick swap?
Standard Scoring, 8 Team $ League, Start...QB,QB,RB,RB,WR,WR,WR,FLEX X3,TE,K,DEF. QB- RB- WR- TE- K- DEF-

That's not a bad idea either. It depends on what kind of value I could get for him. I think I'd be more inclined to deal McCoy though. I just wasn't impressed with him last year when Westbrook was out. Leonard Weaver stole goal line carries too.
