First time draft, how's it look? WHIR

Postby Frappy » Tue Aug 03, 2010 2:01 am

Hey all, normal set-up ESPN 10 teamer with a live draft that just finished tonight. There was a small buy in, and this is my first ever Football league. I feel like I have a solid team and definite room to trade up or catch a breakthrough - who knows. Anyway, please tell me what you think!

QB- Jay Cutler
RB- Adrian Peterson
RB- Beanie Wells
RB/WR- Reggie Wayne
WR- Miles Austin
WR- DeSean Jackson
TE- Jason Witten
D/ST- Bears (At least for Detroit in week 1, will probably stream unless I can grab hold of a keeper)
K- Garrett Hartley

Bench- Kevin Kolb QB
Bench- Brandon Jacobs RB
Bench- Steve Slaton RB
Bench- Michael Bush RB
Bench- Darren McFadden RB
Bench- Donald Driver WR
Bench- Hakeem Nicks WR

Thanks! WHIR!

I think you did really well, I think Cutler will have a bounce back year, Beanie will probably be really good, AP will do real well as always, and you have basically four wide receivers in Austin, Jax, Wayne and Witten which will get you pretty good amts of yardage. The only thing I would look at is getting a third bench WR, I don't know if that is me just being OCD, but I would take another WR and drop a RB, thats what I would do, but it really wouldn't hurt if you didn't because your team is pretty solid throughout.

Thanks,

The only thing I feel pretty bad about was taking Reggie Wayne over Randy Moss. I simply didn't have any draft preparation, so I suppose I didn't know any better. I'm OCD about something like this complete ruining my first team. Otherwise, I'm very happy with the way my draft turned out - and I think I made some good moves.

I wouldn't worry about taking Wayne over Moss. Moss may have more big plays, but Wayne should be more consistent for you throughout the season.

Overall I really like your team. Good depth in case starters flop or get hurt. I would have taken Bradshaw over Jacobs, but I'm not sure when you drafted Jacobs and besides--I like McFadden and Bush as bye-week fill ins anyway.

If everyone stays healthy and produces as they should, you look to be in very good shape.

Good luck, and please see mine:

Did well for a first draft I think. Not many holes.

I think Kolb will turn out better than Cutler though. Cutler just isn't a good fit for a Martz offense and they added nothing for him in terms of targets besides Taylor out of the backfield which means nothing when the Bears have no good blockers besides Olsen.

Wayne is better than Moss, I'd take that any day.

Darren McFadden isn't worth a roster spot imo. He's had too much time to show any kind of explosion and with the exception of a few games against the Chiefs, he just doesn't have it.

With the exception of Cutler, your starting roster needs nothing changed. Pretty solid all around. Your bench is too RB heavy.

Solid team inside and out. I don't see that many flaws. I also would not worry about taking Wayne over Moss. I like that move anyways ;-D

Cool.

I had a similar reaction after completing my draft. I definitely have a lot of talent because I simply made strong value picks in positions that, for some reason, most of the other teams did not take. I'm happy with Cutler/Kolb at QB on this particular team and I think a realization of potential for either of them would make my team scary.

I don't know what to expect from Beanie Wells, but I know I got him in a great position. He should, at the very least, be good enough to be an RB2 on a team that filled all other RB/WR spots before he came around. I am thinking about the possibility of trading for an upgrade there, but I'm very cautious about it and won't create any holes that weren't there before.
