I am on the clock in a 12 team dynasty draft. My first instinct is to go with a RB, since it appears to be the position of most need. However, I am unsure at this point if there is a better value to be had outside of RB.
Additionally, I have been offered Mark Sanchez for my first round pick. I already have three QBs on the roster (Favre, Cassel, Freeman) and would likely need to drop one of them in order to make such a trade. Thoughts?
Best available RB: Michael Bush Jerome Harrison Montario Hardesty Ben Tate Willis McGahee Toby Gerhart Tashard Choice Glen Coffee Dexter McCluster Maurice Morris James Davis Willie Parker Le'Ron McClain Derrick Ward Bernard Scott
Best available players (outside of RB): Jermichael Finley Kevin Kolb Mike Wallace Devin Aromashodu Malcolm Floyd Mohamed Massaquoi Jacoby Jones Julian Edelman Antonio Bryant Demaryius Thomas Devin Thomas Arrelious Benn Chaz Schilens Golden Tate Nate Washington Marcedes Lewis Todd Heap Demetrius Williams Damian Williams Josh Johnson Joshua Cribbs Anthony Fasano Sam Hurd
Who would you target with this pick? Would you consider the trade offer for Sanchez?
First thing is that I would not trade my 1st for Sanchez. He is an alright QB, but I have him on about the same level as Freeman right now. Sanchez may be a little better, but they are definitely a run first offense, so it is a crapshoot with him. Therefore, you may be trading to drop a QB of the same caliber. Further, I would definitely take Kolb over Sanchez if I had the choice, so with Kolb available, it is not a question to me.
As for the pick, I would probably go with a RB, as I agree with you in that it is the biggest need. I would rank them Tate, Bush, Hardesty. In a dynasty, I would lean heavily toward Tate (in a re-draft, I would probably go with Bush, as he will produce from day 1, whereas Tate may not be the starter until week 6...) Bush is overlooked a little this season, in my book, as Oakland should get better offensively. Campbell isn't Johnny U, but he is better than Gradkowski or Mr. Sizzurp. Hardesty is interesting, but since Tate is available, I would go with him.
The only other option, in my opinion, is if you think Kolb may be a great QB (a la Rodgers when he finally stepped out of the spotlight) in the future. I think he'll be good, but that's too bold of a prediction for me, so I would play it safe and take the rookie RB.
Given the news surrounding Favre's impending retirement, I made the decision to go with Kolb. I just couldn't take the risk of being left with Matt Cassel as my starting QB.
