KEEPERS/DRAFT STRATEGY: In a Good Spot Going In

Postby pmstick » Thu Aug 05, 2010 10:17 pm

As defending champ I have my pick WHERE TO DRAFT in our 12-team PPR draft.

We do a funky keeper system where if you keep a guy it costs you a draft pick that's to rounds previous to the draft position the previous year (max 3 keepers).

My keepers and the draft picks they'll cost me are:
1) Ced Benson (Round 11 kept the year before w/Round 13)
2) Jamaal Charles (Round 13)

3) Don't know...between
Mike Wallace (Round 12)
Bobby Meachem (Round 12)
Jerome Harrison (Round 12)
Josh Cribbs (Round 12)

I can load up on RBs and focus my early picks on filling a premier QB1/WR1/TE or solidify my RBs with a stud, keeping a WR like Wallace and spending my next picks on a less potent QB/WR

Where to draft? What to do?

Sorry in advance if this is one of those over-involved posts with too much info and too many questions...any help is always welcome.

Leaning towards a Brees/Manning type in the 5-7 spot and coming back around for a Fitzgerald/Calvin Johnson type WR...

Do you think elite RBs will be kept or can they not be kept due to being taken in the 1st last year? If I can get a top 4 RB, I'm going to get a top 4 RB. Otherwise, what you're saying sounds legit.

They can't be kept. No player in drafted in rounds 1-3 can be kept the following year and The Big 3 for this yr all fall into this category.

Here's what's left after keepers in the first two rounds (ranks from CBS ADP)
1 Chris Johnson, RB, TEN
2 Adrian Peterson, RB, MIN
3 Maurice Jones-Drew, RB, JAC
4 Michael Turner, RB, ATL
5 Frank Gore, RB, SF
6 Andre Johnson, WR, HOU
7 Drew Brees, QB, NO
8 Peyton Manning, QB, IND
9 Steven Jackson, RB, STL
10 Randy Moss, WR, NE
11 Reggie Wayne, WR, IND
12 Ryan Mathews, RB, SD

13 Ryan Grant, RB, GB
14 Tom Brady, QB, NE
15 Larry Fitzgerald, WR, ARI
16 Tony Romo, QB, DAL
17 Calvin Johnson, WR, DET
18 Brandon Marshall, WR, MIA
19 Marques Colston, WR, NO
20 Philip Rivers, QB, SD
21 Joseph Addai, RB, IND
22 Greg Jennings, WR, GB
23 Beanie Wells, RB, ARI
24 Anquan Boldin, WR, BAL

The 6th would almost guarantee me one of Brees, Manning or Andre Johnson, I feel comfortable taking #7 as well for one.

On the back end that would give me:
CalJohnson, Marshall, Colston (w/QB in Rd. 1) or Rivers (w/WR in Rd. 1)
Standard Scoring, 8 Team PPR

QB- BREES, Romo
RB- MARTIN, RICE, Sproles, Murray, A.Morris
WR-D.THOMAS, BRYANT, Maclin, S.Smith
TE- GRAHAM, Hernandez
K- TUCKER
DEF- BENGALS, Giants

Mathews for my Ridley/Redman
Rice for my Mathews/Wallace
