12 team keeper, drafted Brian Westbrook :o - WHIR

Yep, Westbrook. And now that I have your attention... ;-D

Had the #2 pick in my 12 team league today. We keep 1 player, and start 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 1 DEF, 1 K. Standard scoring with .5 PPR (for WR and TE only).

I traded the #2 and #23 overall picks away for the 10th and 15th picks. Wanted to have two solid picks within the first couple rounds, instead of being on the fringes of the turn. Most importantly, I was worried about Charles not making it back to me at pick 2.11.

Keeper - RB Rashard Mendenhall
1.10 - WR Greg Jennings
2.03 - RB Jamaal Charles
3.02 - QB Matt Schaub
4.11 - WR Mike Sims-Walker
5.02 - RB Justin Forsett
6.11 - TE Brent Celek
7.02 - RB Ahmad Bradshaw
8.11 - WR Mike Wallace
9.02 - WR Derrick Mason
10.11 - QB David Garrard
11.02 - DEF Pittsburgh
12.11 - WR Jabar Gaffney
13.02 - WR Johnny Knox
14.11 - RB Brian Westbrook

Roster ends up looking as follows:

QB: Schaub, Garrard
RB: Mendenhall, Charles, Forsett, Bradshaw, Westbrook
WR: Jennings, Sims-Walker, Mason, Wallace, Gaffney, Knox
TE: Celek
DEF: Pitt
K: None

Westbrook explanation: considering that this is only August 8th, I felt that taking a kicker was a waste of a final pick. Not when there were a number of huge long-shot fliers to take. I would have grabbed a handcuff if they hadn't already been scooped up. Peterson or Benson could blow an ACL at any point between now and and the end of preseason...if it happens, wouldn't your rather have their handcuff on your roster already, instead of rushing to the waiver wire because you felt it was more important to stash Nate Kaeding away 4 weeks early?

In Westbrook's case, it's a total shot in the dark. I know he's been linked to St. Louis, and even to Denver today, with their RB injuries. If he goes to the right team, with the right situation, he suddenly has fantasy relevance; and then he's an injury away from being a total 15th round steal. Granted, I'm sure that doesn't happen...and if that's the case, I throw Westbrook away for a kicker at the end of preseason, and I'm no worse off for having held onto him for a couple weeks.

So, thoughts on the other 14 players? Leave a link, WHIR. Thanks!

I don't really like the trading out of the second pick, but I guess you ended up essentially getting Charles with the 27th pick so it worked out. I feel that unless the top players were really spread out last year, you probably could've gotten a player in the 8-12 range with the #2 pick. What 12 players were kept?

And as far as the Westbrook thing goes, it's worth a shot. I never draft kickers or defenses anymore for the same reason. I'd rather take a few extra fliers on guys in situations that are up in the air.

Peterson, Johnson, Jones Drew, Rice, Gore, Jackson, Turner, D. Williams, Mendenhall, Brees, Manning, Colston

Basically all the top backs, leaving all the top WR. Best on the board at draft time were AJ and Rodgers. Top RB available were Greene, Grant, and Matthews. I expected AJ to go #1, and didn't feel it was worth staying at #2 to get Rodgers, since Brady/Schaub/Romo would all be available later on.

As it turned out, Rodgers went #1, and I would have had a shot at AJ at #2...but hindsight is 20/20.

Thanks for the feedback.
