Auction Draft Keeper Suggestions WHIR

Postby ViperFujax » Mon Aug 09, 2010 1:26 pm

This is my first time doing an auction draft..unfortunately it's with my main league that I concentrate on so I'm a little worried with muffing it up. i'll try to keep it short

The rules are you get to keep as many players from last year as you want, but you lose the projected amount of money that yahoo says they will go for. The prices may not be default since there's 10 players, so dont concentrate too much on the amounts, more on the idea of what I'm doing.

I'm really planning on keeping as many people as possible since I would get so many of them on a deal. People really drove up the price on people in the mock draft I did, and I'm a cheap bastard so I skipped on a lot of the 'top-caliber' guys.

Here's who I'm thinking of keeping:

QB- Donovan Mcnabb- $2 (worried he doesnt have any WR, but $2..)
WR- Miles Austin- $18
WR- Reggie Wayne- $11
RB- Knowshon Moreno- $17
RB- Adrian Peterson- $43
RB- Ladanian Tomlinson- $0 (yea, he might suck it up but he's free)
TE- Visanthe Shiancoe- $2
TE- John Carlson- $3 (keeping 2 te's seems stupid but he's got a lot of potential. cant imagine getting another backup TE any cheaper)
DEF- Baltimore Defense- $2

That's $98 total, so I still have $102 to grab another top guy and fill out my roster. (the cap is $200)

I need one or two more starting WR and one RB since I dont trust LT. Then the rest are bench guys.

Does this sound like a good idea to keep all these dudes? It seems sound to me, but this is the first time i've done this kind of draft

Well its kind of hard to say if this is the right way to go, without knowing who is available ya know?

This is the way I look at it:

You are keeping 2 top 5WR, can't at all go wrong there, especially when it will only cost you $29 (can't believe you are getting Wayne for $11 thats a steal). On top of that your also able to keep the #1 or #2 RB in the league in Adrian (granted $43 is a pretty big number) but I would gladly spend that much to have a cornerstone RB like that and with the fact your spending under $30 on 2 top WR. McNabb is a steal at $2, and to say he has no WR is a stretch, Santana Moss is a good quality WR1 for him, Devon Thomas should end up as the WR2, Galloway will be a legit WR2/WR3 option and Cooley is the equivalent of most of the WR2 options other QBs have. Donovan always figures out how to make it work.

Absolute steals: Wayne, McNabb, LT, Shiancoe (only because Favre is coming back) and Baltimore D
Nice quality given value: Austin and Peterson

Now, what I wouldn't do is keep Moreno at $17, with or without his injuries in my eyes hes not worth that. Thats just my opinion, if you don't think there will be a lot of RB left to auction for then keep him, if not I'd toss him back. Also I have never liked carrying 2TE or 2K or 2DST on any roster. I know its only $3, but those $3 could help you win a player.

After I would go all out on the biggest RB left, push hard, maybe over spend a bit to make sure your going to get a big RB2, that should leave you with MORE then enough to grab a sweet WR3 and then some backup RBs, WRs and a QB. You are sitting real pretty with that squad and $100+ going into the draft.

Help me out...
